  • A minimum of one of the following is required: a Certificate of Completion of a hospital-based program or an Associate’s degree from an accredited radiology technology school.
  • Registration with the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists is required, or the technologist must be registry eligible and obtain registration within six months of the hire date.
  • The employee must successfully complete a Basic Life Support training course within six months.
  • The employee must be able to operate basic computer programs associated with departmental record keeping.
  • The employee must demonstrate human relations skills for dealing with patients and providers in difficult or sensitive situations.
  • The employee must have a customer service orientation.
  • The employee must demonstrate leadership and organizational skills, including the ability to work independently and take initiative within established procedures.
  • The employee must be able to sustain alertness and concentration during repetitive, detailed work and computer use.
  • The employee must be able to stand and walk considerably, lift light objects up to 20 pounds, and assist with heavier tasks such as lifting and moving patients weighing 50 pounds or more.
  • The employee must observe and practice sterile technique.
Responsibilities
  • Perform radiographic examinations of various anatomical parts and body systems to assist physicians in diagnosing and treating injuries or medical disorders.
  • Work rotationally in several areas of the radiology department, performing routine radiology examinations and advanced diagnostic procedures such as fluoroscopy, joint injections, and lumbar/myelogram examinations.
  • Receive or escort patients into examination areas, review pertinent patient information, instruct patients about examinations, and assist providers with procedures.
  • Position patients to obtain diagnostic results, set up and adjust supportive or immobilization devices, and apply and adjust radiation-protective shielding.
  • Operate diagnostic radiographic equipment to provide optimal examinations according to physician orders or requests, consult radiologists about orders or unusual situations, and work in other areas as needed.
  • Operate equipment properly and report malfunctions, necessary adjustments, or repairs.
  • Assist providers in administering prescribed radiolucent or radiopaque media for examinations.
  • Perform first aid and assist with adverse reactions to contrast media or other emergencies.
  • Maintain cleanliness of procedure rooms and equipment.
  • Maintain accurate patient and file documentation.
  • Maintain appropriate supply levels in the assigned area.
  • Demonstrate or oversee on-the-job training for student technologists and other nonprofessional assistants as assigned.
