Requirements
  • Graduate of an accredited medical school and completion of residency and/or fellowship in the area of specialty.
  • Current or recent experience in the area of specialty.
  • MD or DO licensed by the state licensure board within the state of practice.
  • Board certified or board eligible in the area of specialty by the appropriate medical board.
  • Ability to perform the stated physical and sensory requirements, including patient handling and therapeutic procedures.
Responsibilities
  • Perform history and physical examinations of all patients seen.
  • Provide cost-effective, high-quality care based on best-practice, evidence-based medicine.
  • Adhere to standardized orders and practice guidelines approved by the medical staff.
  • Demonstrate competency in patient assessment, treatment, growth and development knowledge, and age-appropriate communication.
  • Provide regular, timely, and appropriate communication with referring physicians, patients, and their families.
  • Participate in education of patients and their families.
  • Evaluate and implement patient health care needs; perform routine examinations and obtain patient histories.
  • Manage patient treatment programs based on assessed needs.
  • Initiate treatment through prescriptions, diagnostic tests, examinations, and procedures.
  • Review laboratory results and plan actions according to those results.
  • Perform routine health maintenance activities for new and established patients.
  • Coordinate patient care and make referrals to physicians, nurses, psychologists, nutritionists, and other professionals as needed.
  • Collaborate and communicate with other professionals, nurses, physicians, and outside agencies regarding patient care.
  • Coordinate patient care and family counseling with public and mental health agencies as appropriate.
  • Teach wellness habits and educate patients on prevention of potential health problems or methods of dealing with present problems.
  • Provide information and materials relating to patient health care needs.
  • Maintain knowledge of current medical practices and skills.
  • Maintain confidentiality of materials handled within the network or entity and ensure proper release of information.
  • Comply with network and departmental policies regarding employee, patient, and environmental safety and follow appropriate reporting requirements.
