- An associate degree from an accredited school of Radiological Technology is required.
- At least three months of clinical and on-the-job training is required.
- The technologist must be registry eligible or hold Registered Technologist (MR) and/or American Registry of Magnetic Resonance Imaging Technologists certification; registry-eligible technologists must obtain registration within six months of hire.
- Basic Life Support certification is required within six months of hire.
- The technologist must be able to operate basic computer programs associated with departmental record keeping.
- The technologist must demonstrate verbal and written communication, problem-solving, assertiveness, customer service orientation, leadership and organization skills, independent judgment, initiative, and the ability to work within established procedures.
- The role requires sustained alertness and concentration, considerable standing or walking, lifting objects weighing 20 pounds or less, assisting with lifting and moving patients, and performing fatiguing physical motions.
- The technologist must practice MRI-specific safety, sterile technique, and cross-contamination prevention.
- Operate MRI equipment for diagnostic purposes and provide MRI services for all body parts according to policy and procedure while considering patient age and special characteristics.
- Receive or escort patients into the examination area, review pertinent patient information, and instruct patients about the examination.
- Provide timely, high-quality MRI procedures for radiologist interpretation.
- Clean, maintain, monitor, and troubleshoot equipment according to manufacturer recommendations; report equipment problems to the supervisor and contact the manufacturer's service department when the supervisor is unavailable.
- Perform first aid as required and assist with adverse reactions to contrast media and other emergencies.
- Keep the supervisor informed of unusual matters and seek advice and counsel when needed.
- Maintain appropriate supply levels in assigned areas.
- Demonstrate or oversee on-the-job training for student technologists, non-professional assistants, newly hired MRI technologists, and technologists needing training on new procedures.
- Demonstrate excellent customer service when answering the phone.
- Participate in department growth and development through policy and procedure development, quality assurance activities, and continuing education for professional healthcare workers.
