Requirements
  • A bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering and/or Construction Management or a related field from an accredited institution, or equivalent training and experience, is required.
  • Professional registration as a Professional Engineer in California is required.
  • At least 15 years of proven project management experience in the architecture, engineering, and construction industry is required.
  • Knowledge of how to build a strong construction management group is required.
  • Proven success in delivering high-quality projects on time and on budget is required.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in written and verbal form is required.
  • Ability to work through and overcome conflicts productively while maintaining professionalism is required.
Responsibilities
  • Provide direction and leadership on multiple local projects and identify opportunities to grow GFT's regional presence.
  • Develop and lead strategic and tactical operational initiatives to meet sales and revenue targets and develop client relationships focused on project execution.
  • Recruit and hire a construction management group.
  • Develop and mentor a team while promoting collaborative problem-solving and a culture of teamwork and effective communication.
  • Participate in and oversee regional project bid reviews and review and negotiate agreements and contracts.
  • Provide leadership and guidance to project managers and support staff assigned to projects, ensuring projects progress on schedule and within budget.
  • Ensure the most effective regional utilization of resources.
  • Review weekly and monthly project status reports and evaluate whether schedules and plans meet required project performance goals.
  • Assemble project teams using internal resources and external resources from the existing network.
  • Oversee project cost controls, budgets, invoicing, estimates, and forecasts, and provide regular management updates focused on profit, positive cash flow, and timely project closeout.
  • Lead resolution of contractual, legal, and compliance issues with owners, joint venture partners, or suppliers when necessary.
  • Implement new policies and procedures across the group to improve efficiency and workflow and directly oversee the change-management process.
  • Lead and capture new transportation contracts and project opportunities.
Desired Qualifications
  • Certified Construction Manager certification is preferred.
  • Substantial experience with large-scale heavy civil projects, including bridges, roads, highways, or rail, is preferred.
