Requirements
  • A high school education or GED plus two years of call center, cash handling, customer service, and general office work experience.
  • Knowledge of telephone etiquette, proper English, spelling and punctuation, automated billing, online cashiering, work management, computer applications, computer equipment usage, and cash handling protocols.
  • Experience or ability to use CIS billing, bill/payment website, payment processing, Advanced Metering Infrastructure, identification validation, remittance payment processor, and personal identification verification systems.
  • Ability to provide quality customer service, including in high-conflict situations; investigate and determine facts; accurately enter and code data; type 35 words per minute; calculate utility billing and adjustments; count money and give correct change; and process mail and payments.
  • Ability to provide information through call-center queues, email, web, fax, radio, telephone, and in-person interactions.
  • Ability to operate office equipment including a PC, keyboard, telephone, facsimile, copier, shredder, printer, mail opener, remittance processor, cash register, calculator, and multi-channel radio.
  • Ability to perform bending, hearing, seeing, and handwriting tasks; understand oral and written instructions; read and interpret correspondence, city codes, ordinances, policies, and manuals; and maintain effective working relationships.
  • Successful completion of a criminal background check and credit check.
Responsibilities
  • Assist customers with program and resource information and activate, close, or transfer water utility accounts.
  • Handle department cashiering functions, including balancing cash drawers, preparing daily deposits, and conducting daily reconciliations.
  • Accept and process payments from walk-in customers, telephone customers, the night depository, and mailed-in payment information; enter payments into the CIS system for immediate posting; and provide receipts or confirmation numbers.
  • Analyze customer inquiries and research information by contacting citizens and internal or external sources.
  • Answer questions and provide accurate information about billings, payment schedules, and other utility services, and identify documentation needed to complete processes.
