Requirements
  • A master's degree in special education, behavior analysis, or another related field is required.

Responsibilities
  • Employ behavioral strategies and techniques to provide appropriate behavioral interventions that encourage students to be school-ready.
  • Ensure behavioral support service requirements are met and rendered as prescribed in students' Individualized Education Programs.
  • Adapt therapeutic interventions and behavior-management practices to individual students, evaluate therapeutic effectiveness, document outcomes, and modify interventions based on data, reflection, and feedback.
  • Conduct students' Functional Behavioral Assessments.
  • Participate in developing and monitoring students' Individualized Education Programs, Behavior Intervention Plans, and Functional Behavioral Assessments, including completing required documentation within established guidelines.
  • Complete related-service notes and billing documentation accurately and within assigned deadlines.
  • Provide behavioral supervision to assigned staff and collaborate with them to develop and implement specialized interventions and incentive plans.
  • Monitor staff compliance with special-education laws and regulations, including the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act, the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act, COMAR, and DCMR.
  • Assist with interviewing, hiring, supervision, coaching, progressive counseling, and termination of assigned support staff; complete performance evaluations and create and review individual goals for assigned staff.
  • Provide staff training on behavior-management procedures and program processes, maintain Board Certified Behavior Analyst certification, and conduct scheduled training to support staff certifications.
  • Apply knowledge of students' diagnoses and disabilities to adapt intervention strategies to the requirements of their Individualized Education Programs and Behavior Intervention Plans.
  • Manage student behavior through positive behavioral-management systems, school rules, policies, and procedures; model appropriate behavior and help students use strategies to reduce inappropriate behaviors.
  • Identify behaviors that could lead to a crisis, unsafe situation, or disruption and use behavior-management techniques to limit the severity and duration of disruptions.
  • Develop Behavior Action Plans addressing behavioral, communication, and social-skills deficits.
  • Supervise students to ensure the safety and security of the school program.
  • Maintain student confidentiality in accordance with organizational confidentiality policies and student-record procedures.
  • Use verbal de-escalation and the least restrictive behavioral interventions; participate in seclusions, therapeutic holds, escorts, and restraints when necessary; and use approved TACT 2 or classroom behavior-management techniques.
  • Collaborate with therapists, teachers, school leaders, and other team members to determine student and classroom needs and adjust interventions and practices.
  • Participate in committees, meetings, supervision, and professional-development activities.
  • Comply with the organization's policies, rules, protocols, and procedures.
  • Complete other assigned duties.
Desired Qualifications
  • Two or more years of successful behavioral experience working with children on the autism spectrum and experience working in a school setting.
  • Knowledge of the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders and the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act and their applications to educating students with autism spectrum disorders and other disabilities.
  • Supervisory experience.
  • Bilingual Spanish and English abilities.
