Humber River Health joins the Princess Margaret Cancer Care Network. 07 Apr 2026 By Humber River Health Humber River Health (Humber) has formally joined the Princess Margaret (PM) Cancer Care Network, marking a significant step toward enhancing cancer care expertise, research, and education across Northwest Toronto, Etobicoke, Rexdale, and York Region. Humber becomes the eighth cancer program in Canada to join the PM Cancer Care Network - a collective of local, regional, and national partners committed to advancing collaborative clinical care, accelerating research and innovation, and strengthening cancer education. "We are proud to formalize this partnership with Humber River Health, which will strengthen and expand access to specialised cancer services while advancing education and research. Together, we will enhance care and support for patients and their caregivers closer to home," says Dr. Keith Stewart, VP Cancer and Laboratory Medicine, UHN, and Director of the Princess Margaret Cancer Centre. The Cancer Care Program at Humber River Health provides comprehensive, patient-centered cancer care through an integrated team of specialists. The program features a 32-bed inpatient unit for medical care and symptom management, including a radiation isolation room, and a Cancer Care Clinic with 28 treatment spaces offering systemic therapy and access to clinical trials. Patients benefit from coordinated care, peer-to-peer support, and a dedicated Patient and Family Advisory Council to ensure a person-centred approach. Shaping young lives: Dr. Maged Kodsi's 25 years of compassionate care. For 25 years, Dr. Maged Kodsi has been one of the foundations behind Humber River Health's Child & Adolescent Mental Health Program which is an area of care that, decades ago, had very few dedicated centres in Toronto. At that time, only two major programs existed across the province, and Humber River Health was proud to be one of them. When Dr. Kodsi first joined Humber River Health, the program indeed had humble beginnings. It was small but hopeful: a 6-bed inpatient unit accompanied by a day school established in partnership with the Toronto Board of Education. This collaboration allowed adolescents experiencing significant mental health challenges to continue their education in a supportive setting while receiving the care they needed. In those early years, the focus was simple yet meaningful. It was to build an environment that nurtures safety, healing, and potential. With time, effort, and a clear vision for expansion, the program evolved well beyond its initial footprint. Humber introduced an Urgent Care Clinic tailored to children and adolescents experiencing acute mental health concerns. The hospital also expanded its reach through community collaborative clinicians, who support continuity of care outside hospital walls. While the program's services and partnerships have grown significantly, Dr. Kodsi believes that Humber River Health's greatest strength lies in something less tangible but deeply felt: its culture of genuine care. Central to his philosophy is a belief that has guided his work for decades: "Childhood is a short season. If we do a good job in this short season, it will last a lifetime." This belief reinforces the program's holistic model of care, which emphasizes supporting parents as much as their children. Because parents play the most consistent role in a young person's daily life, Dr. Kodsi stresses that equipping families with knowledge, confidence, and tools is essential for long-term success. Across 25 years, Dr. Kodsi has collected stories that continue to remind him why this work matters. One former patient reached out years later to share that the support they received during adolescence inspired them to pursue a career in medicine. They had just been accepted to a medical school in Ireland and wanted to thank Dr. Kodsi and the team for being a source of guidance and hope. For Dr. Kodsi, these updates are more than heartwarming; they are reflections of what compassionate, community-driven care can mean in a young person's life. As Humber River Health continues to build and strengthen its Child & Adolescent Mental Health Program, the contributions of Dr. Maged Kodsi remain at its core. What began as a small inpatient unit with a bold vision has grown into a comprehensive, collaborative, and community-rooted program that continues to adapt to the needs of young people - one that follows patients well into adulthood, and often, around the world.
