Requirements
  • A high school diploma or GED is required.
  • Successful completion of a Medical Assistant externship is required.
  • Medical Assistant certification must be completed within the first 90 days of employment.
  • CPR certification is required.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of Medical Assistant protocols relating to patient care, provider assistance, examination rooms, and records maintenance is required.
  • Bilingual English/Spanish ability is preferred.
  • Ability to interact effectively with a diverse population and provide strong customer service is required.
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision and manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment is required.
Responsibilities
  • Greet patients and escort them to assigned examination rooms.
  • Document appropriate patient history, vital signs, and chief complaints for the visit type.
  • Prepare patients for the appropriate visit type.
  • Assist providers during treatment and procedures.
  • Administer and store medications according to clinic policy.
  • Make appropriate referrals according to established procedures.
  • Collect laboratory specimens and escort patients to the laboratory.
  • Administer immunizations and injections as appropriate and requested.
  • Identify opportunities to improve workflow, work processes, and patient care, and cooperate in implementing quality improvements.
  • Adhere to HIPAA guidelines.
  • Maintain inventory and stock examination and treatment rooms with supplies, instruments, and equipment.
  • Follow risk-management protocols in the examination-room environment.
  • Clean and disinfect non-consumable instruments according to established procedures.
  • Maintain order and cleanliness in nursing stations, chart areas, utility rooms, and examination rooms.
  • Assist with locating patient referral resources.
  • Assist with follow-up paperwork.
  • Enter all in-house laboratory results into the electronic medical record.
  • Answer examination-area telephone calls when available and route calls to appropriate personnel.
  • Retrieve charts for callbacks as needed.
  • Notify patients of laboratory results according to clinic procedures.
