Requirements
  • Nursing students must have prospective Spring, Summer, or Winter graduation dates, be eligible to sit for the NCLEX, and obtain licensure before the internship starts.
  • Nursing students must have emergency department or prehospital-care experience, be completing a senior emergency department practicum, or have a minimum GPA of 3.2.
  • Experienced registered nurses without emergency department experience are eligible to apply.
  • Applicants must maintain current Basic Life Support certification.
  • Applicants must hold a current registered nurse license to practice in Pennsylvania, or in New Jersey for the Warren Campus.
  • Applicants must be able to meet the stated physical and sensory requirements, including standing, walking, lifting, transporting patients, and perceiving and communicating with patients.
Responsibilities
  • Provide nursing care through the nursing process by assessing, planning, implementing, coordinating, evaluating, and documenting the effects of care.
  • Work cooperatively with ancillary, nursing, and other patient-team personnel to maintain professional nursing practice standards.
  • Maintain confidentiality of materials handled within the Network or entity and ensure proper release of information.
  • Demonstrate the Network’s Service Excellence Standards of Performance when interacting with internal and external customers.
  • Comply with Network and departmental attendance and dress-code policies.
  • Demonstrate competency in patient assessment, treatment range, growth and development knowledge, and age-appropriate communication.
  • Upon successful completion of the internship, practice caring for patients across their lifespans in a St. Luke’s Emergency Department.
