SMCI projects $65B–$72B revenue, lifting Dell and HPE shares in pre-market trading

Super Micro Computer projected fiscal 2027 revenue of $65–$72 billion, significantly exceeding the analyst consensus of $52.50 billion. The guidance sent SMCI shares up roughly 9% in pre-market trading Wednesday. Dell Technologies and Hewlett Packard Enterprise rose in sympathy, gaining 2.6% and 2.2% respectively, as investors view SMCI's results as a demand indicator for AI server hardware. SMCI's fourth-quarter gross margin reached 17.5%, surpassing its preliminary estimate of 15%–17%. Fourth-quarter revenue nearly doubled year-over-year to $11.12 billion, though it fell short of the $11.55 billion consensus. The company counted nine customers generating over $1 billion in annual revenue in fiscal 2026, up from four the previous year. Dell held an AI systems backlog of $51.3 billion, whilst HPE reported $16.4 billion. Big Tech capital spending is expected to surpass $730 billion in 2026.

Rigetti to deliver 9-qubit system for $5M NSF-funded hybrid quantum-classical supercomputer testbed

Rigetti Computing will supply a 9-qubit Novera quantum computing system to Pittsburgh Supercomputing Center's new TangleLab testbed, funded by a $5 million National Science Foundation grant. The project expands Rigetti's collaboration with HPE to develop quantum-enabled high-performance computing systems. The testbed will integrate the quantum system with classical HPC infrastructure. PSC will allocate access through a competitive proposal process, supporting both dedicated research and educational purposes. Rigetti CEO Dr Subodh Kulkarni emphasised the system's fast gate speeds, characteristic of superconducting quantum systems. HPE's role involves unifying quantum processors with HPC, AI, and advanced networking technologies. PSC will provide onboarding, training, and research consulting to help users operate the hybrid quantum-classical system.
