  • 7 years experience in infection prevention
  • If the candidate is a nurse, must hold an active Registered Nurse license in the state of Texas or be eligible for licensure by reciprocity Upon Hire and Certification in Infection Control from the Certification Board of Infection Control (CBIC) Upon Hire
Responsibilities
  • Collaborates with the Director of Infection Prevention to manage and supervise department staff, ensuring effective daily operations.
  • Recruits, trains, motivates, and evaluates team members to enhance performance and deliver high-quality service.
  • Promotes staff growth through ongoing education, training, and professional development opportunities.
  • Demonstrates effective leadership, fostering a culture of accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
  • Leads interdisciplinary efforts to maintain regulatory compliance and survey readiness.
  • Serves as a department representative during accreditation and regulatory surveys, providing accurate information and expert support.
  • Develops, reviews, and maintains infection control policies and procedures aligned with current guidelines and best practices.
  • Oversees essential components of the infection prevention program, including: Construction and renovation review; Evaluation of patient care environments; Product selection and evaluation; Disinfection and sterilization practices
  • Conducts routine unit rounds to monitor compliance and detect emerging infection issues.
  • Acts promptly in infection control emergencies, coordinating swift interventions.
  • Leads surveillance efforts to detect healthcare-associated infections (HAIs) and community-acquired infections.
  • Collects, analyzes, and reports infection data in accordance with risk assessments and regulatory standards.
  • Utilizes epidemiologic tools to identify clusters or outbreaks and guide responsive strategies.
  • Prepares infection control reports, graphs, and materials for the Infection Control Committee and other quality initiatives.
  • Reports communicable diseases to public health authorities as required.
  • Coordinates and directs outbreak investigations in partnership with the Director and Medical Director: Assigns team responsibilities; Oversees data collection and analysis; Develops and implements response strategies; Evaluates the impact of interventions; Engages laboratory resources and monitors intervention effectiveness and compliance.
  • Implements and monitors infection prevention practices such as: Hand hygiene compliance; Environmental cleaning and disinfection; Sterilization and disinfection processes; Use of barrier precautions and PPE; Safe handling and use of medical equipment
  • Develops and updates isolation precautions based on evolving evidence and regulatory guidance.
  • Designs and delivers educational programs for staff, patients, and other stakeholders.
  • Keeps the organization informed of changes to infection prevention practices, guidelines, and regulations.
  • Tailors communication to effectively reach diverse audiences across the organization.
  • Serves as a subject matter expert and consultative resource for departments and leadership.
  • Participates in Environment of Care and other interdisciplinary committees to integrate infection control into broader safety initiatives.
  • Builds strong relationships with clinical teams to support a shared commitment to infection prevention.
  • Engages in continuing education, professional meetings, literature review, and networking to remain current in the field.
  • Demonstrates resilience, adaptability, and sound judgment in navigating challenges and organizational change.
  • Applies lessons learned from past experiences to inform future decisions and strategies.
  • Performs other duties and projects as assigned to support departmental and organizational goals.
