Requirements
  • At least one year of registered nurse experience, also described as twelve months of appropriate clinical experience.
  • Current or compact registered nurse licensure in North Carolina is required.
  • Graduation from an accredited Bachelor of Science in Nursing program is required.
  • Current Basic Life Support certification is required.
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support certification is required.
  • Competence in Basic Life Support and other specialized life-support requirements designated by the work area is required.
  • Registered nurse scope of practice, nursing process, professional nursing theory, practice, and procedures are required.
  • Ability to assess acute and chronically ill patients and their families is required.
  • Ability to document assessments, care plans, interventions, evaluations, and patient status using computer or paper tools is required.
  • Ability to use computers and learn new software programs is required.
  • Pre-employment Physical Capacity Testing is required.
Responsibilities
  • Independently plan and provide professional nursing care for patients in accordance with physician orders and established policies and procedures.
  • Provide nursing services to patients and families within the registered nurse scope of practice defined by the North Carolina Board of Nursing.
  • Plan, provide, supervise, and document nursing care using the nursing process.
  • Use professional nursing judgment to individualize care plans based on patient assessment, baseline needs, and response to care.
  • Delegate tasks and supervise licensed and unlicensed care providers.
  • Assist nursing personnel in delivering care and act as team leader or charge nurse for assigned patients or units.
  • Assess, prepare, and monitor patients before, during, and after gastrointestinal or pulmonary procedures, including colonoscopy, esophagogastroduodenoscopy, and bronchoscopy.
  • Recognize and act on potentially life-threatening changes in patient condition.
  • Interpret electrocardiograms, including rhythm and ST-segment changes.
  • Administer ordered pharmacologic agents and continuously monitor vital signs during procedures.
  • Monitor and initiate corrective action to maintain the care environment, including equipment and material resources.
  • Maintain required competencies, identify learning needs, and pursue appropriate assistance or educational offerings.
  • Act as a preceptor and support the development of staff and formal learners.
  • Identify clinical or operational performance-improvement opportunities and participate in performance-improvement activities.
  • Apply infection-control procedures, safety precautions, and applicable Joint Commission and regulatory requirements.
Desired Qualifications
  • At least two years of registered nurse experience.
  • Moderate sedation experience.
