Requirements
  • Completion of the ACG Claim Representative Training Program or equivalent knowledge or experience.
  • Eligibility to acquire a state adjuster’s license within 90 days of hire where required and maintain it as specified for the applicable states.
  • One year of experience negotiating claim settlements, securing and evaluating evidence, preparing manual and electronic estimates, handling subrogation claims, resolving coverage questions, taking statements, and establishing clear evaluation and resolution plans for claims.
  • Knowledge of the Essential Insurance Act in Michigan, the Fair Trade Practices Act as it relates to claims, subrogation procedures and processes, intercompany arbitration, and building construction and repair techniques.
  • Ability to handle claims according to claim-handling standards and apply ACG claim policies, procedures, and guidelines.
  • Ability to work within assigned ACG claim systems, including basic personal-computer software.
  • Ability to perform basic claim-file reviews and investigations.
  • Ability to demonstrate effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to demonstrate customer-service skills by building and maintaining relationships with insureds and claimants, understanding their problems, and responding to questions and concerns.
  • Ability to analyze and solve problems while demonstrating sound decision-making skills.
  • Ability to prioritize claim-related functions.
  • Ability to process time-sensitive data and information from multiple sources.
  • Ability to manage time and organize and plan workload and responsibilities.
  • Ability to safely operate a motor vehicle to visit repair facilities, homes for inspections, patients, and other locations.
  • Ability to research, analyze, and interpret subrogation laws in various states.
  • Ability to travel outside the assigned territory, potentially involving overnight stays.

Responsibilities
  • Review assigned claims.
  • Contact the insured and other affected parties.
  • Set expectations for the remainder of the claim and initiate documentation in the claim-handling system.
  • Complete coverage analysis, including reviewing policy coverages and provisions and their applicability to the reported loss.
  • Ensure that all possible policyholder benefits are identified.
  • Create additional sub-claims when needed or refer complex claims to management or the appropriate claim handler.
  • Investigate claim facts in greater detail to determine whether the claim should be paid, applicable limits or exclusions, and possible recovery potential.
  • Review damages thoroughly and determine the applicability of state law and other claim-related factors.
  • Evaluate the financial value of the loss.
  • Approve payments for the appropriate parties.
  • Refer claims to other company units when necessary, including Underwriting, Recovery Units, or the Claims Special Investigation Unit.
  • Document and code the claim file and complete claim closure and related activities in the assigned claims management system.
  • Handle inside desk homeowner and catastrophe claims generally valued between $5,000 and $25,000.
  • Investigate claims requiring coverage analysis.
  • Review estimates for accuracy.
  • Monitor contractor repair status and updates when needed.
Desired Qualifications
  • An associate degree in Business Administration, Insurance, or a related field, or equivalent related work experience.
  • Completion of the Insurance Institute of America’s General Insurance Program, Associate in Claims, Associate in Management, or equivalent.
  • Experience with Xactimate.
  • Excellent customer-service skills.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Call-center or queue-calling experience.
  • Knowledge of full-cycle claim handling.
  • An active Florida adjuster’s license.
