Requirements
  • An active American Health Information Management Association credential, including Registered Health Information Administrator, Registered Health Information Technician, Certified Coding Specialist, or Certified Coding Associate, or an active American Academy of Professional Coders credential such as Certified Outpatient Coder, Certified Coding Specialist–Physician-based, Certified Professional Coder, or a related specialty credential.
  • Two years of recent and relevant hands-on coding experience.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy and physiology, pharmacology, pathophysiology, and International Classification of Diseases, Tenth Revision and Current Procedural Terminology/Healthcare Common Procedure Coding System code sets.
  • Ability to consistently code at a 95% quality threshold while maintaining client-specific and Savista production and quality standards.
  • Proficient computer knowledge, including Microsoft Office and the ability to enter data and sort and filter Excel files.
  • Ability to demonstrate interpersonal and problem-solving skills with internal and external customers.
  • Successful completion of the pre-employment skills assessment.
Responsibilities
  • Select and sequence International Classification of Diseases, Tenth Revision, Current Procedural Terminology, and/or Healthcare Common Procedure Coding System codes for designated patient types, including ancillary or diagnostic and recurring, hospital or clinic, physician professional fee, technical fee, or evaluation and management cases.
  • Review and analyze facility records to ensure that Ambulatory Payment Classification assignments and/or evaluation and management codes accurately reflect diagnoses and procedures documented in the clinical record.
  • Abstract clinical data from records after documentation review to ensure it adequately and appropriately supports diagnoses, procedures, and selected discharge disposition.
  • Complete assigned work functions using appropriate resources and act as a resource for client staff regarding data integrity, clarification, and compliant coding practices, including provider queries.
  • Maintain patient and provider confidentiality in compliance with Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act guidelines.
  • Participate in client and Savista staff meetings, training, and conference calls as requested or required.
  • Maintain current working knowledge of International Classification of Diseases, Tenth Revision and/or Current Procedural Terminology/Healthcare Common Procedure Coding System, coding guidelines, government regulations, protocols, and third-party coding or billing requirements.
  • Participate in continuing education activities to enhance knowledge and skills and maintain current credentials.
Desired Qualifications
  • Recent and relevant experience in an active production coding environment.
  • An associate degree in Health Information Management or a healthcare-related field, or equivalent education and experience.
  • Experience using Rcx, Cerner, or NextGen.
