Requirements
  • High school diploma or equivalent and completion of a four-year apprenticeship program, or four years of trade-related trainee experience as a substitute for the apprenticeship.
  • Five years of journeyman experience.
  • Experience performing standard trade-related procedures and general knowledge of trade-related methods, materials, tools, and equipment.
  • General knowledge of industrial and commercial locksmithing.
  • Experience operating key-cutting and code-cutting machines.
  • Experience maintaining records and preparing reports.
  • Familiarity with city and state building codes, Occupational Safety and Health Administration rules and regulations, standard safety practices and equipment, and other workplace safety requirements.
  • Familiarity with emergency operations and response or recovery plans, including regular training to implement those plans.
Responsibilities
  • Perform standard and advanced locksmith procedures, including high-security keying, master key system creation and maintenance, and low-voltage access control.
  • Determine whether equipment needs repair or replacement and estimate materials required for specific job components.
  • Perform alterations, maintenance, and repair work on university lock systems and access control systems.
  • Repair, install, and re-key mechanical locks, electrified hardware, access control locks, panic hardware, locksets, and electrical releases.
  • Work from blueprints, specifications, and plans.
  • Operate key-cutting and code-cutting machines, including machines for high-security cylinders.
  • Maintain key records and prepare maintenance reports.
  • Maintain a clean job site, safe working conditions, and supplies, tools, and equipment.
  • Set priorities and timelines and monitor the work of others.
  • Train journeymen, Zone Maintenance Technicians, and other employees in specific skills and tasks.
  • Identify additional training needs that would benefit staff.
  • Assist with emergency response efforts and mobilize other staff members when needed.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned or requested.
Desired Qualifications
  • Related undergraduate study.
  • Experience troubleshooting, maintaining, and repairing automatic door operators and access control systems, including hardwired and standalone systems.
  • Experience with high-security key systems and the ability to re-key high-security cylinders.
  • Familiarity with Americans with Disabilities Act, fire door, and life safety codes.
  • Familiarity with Office of Statewide Health Planning and Development and Joint Commission rules and regulations pertaining to health facilities.
