Requirements
  • Completion of a Radiology Technology program
  • ARRT-R Radiography certification within six months of hire date
  • Basic Life Support HealthCare Provider certification from the American Heart Association (AHA) where required by state
  • ARRT-R Radiography certification or ARRT-Bone Density certification as applicable by location (Illinois: ARRT-R or ARRT-Bone Density; Missouri and Oklahoma: ARRT-R or ARRT-Bone Density; Wisconsin: ARRT-R Radiography or ARRT-Bone Density)
  • Radiologic Technologists certification/Temporary Accreditation with the Illinois Emergency Management Agency (IEMA) where required by Illinois location
  • Effective to be licensed as Radiographer in Wisconsin: Radiographer, Licensed by the Wisconsin Department of Safety and Professional Services; ARRT-R Radiography or ARRT-Bone Density
Responsibilities
  • Explains procedures to patient to ensure understanding and provides educational materials
  • Transports patients to and from clinical areas and verifies patient identity according to policies and procedures
  • Prepares patient for radiology exam by positioning the patient for the procedure
  • Follows radiation safety procedures and guidelines to prevent unnecessary radiation exposure
  • Prepares and administers contrast media and medications within the accepted scope of practice and applicable state and federal regulations
  • Observes patient during procedure and reports abnormal activity; monitors protocols and updates as warranted
  • Ensures prompt submission of high-quality images and documents to PACS with correct lead markers and patient data/history
  • Ensures equipment is properly functioning and reports problems; lock/tag out equipment if appropriate
  • Maintains a clean and orderly department including procedure rooms, storage areas, dressing rooms, and other department areas
  • May perform limited CT procedures in emergent situations when a CT Technologist is not on site
  • Works in a constant state of alertness and safe manner
  • Performs other duties as assigned
