Requirements
  • 10+ years of government relations or public policy experience within government, the energy or cleantech domains, and/or relevant nonprofits, public interest groups, companies, or industry associations.
  • Skilled and experienced at persuasively and diplomatically advocating complex policy positions before a wide variety of audiences.
  • Experience in translating complex policy and legislation succinctly and persuasively to support SPAN policy and regulatory affairs objectives.
  • Knowledge of Federal legislative dynamics and decision-making, and an expansive political network.
  • Excellent interpersonal and organizational skills, and exceptional verbal and written communication skills.
  • Experience with the Department of Energy, Inflation Reduction Act Administrators, and/or with congressional committees with oversight of residential electrification standards and/or internet-connected electrical systems in the home (including solar, batteries, EVs, heat pumps, and electrical panels).
  • Ability to travel domestically to project sites (up to 30%).
  • Advanced Degree (J.D., MBA, MPP, MPA, etc.)
  • 5+ years working on energy or cleantech technology policy.
  • Experience working with national associations that represent state and local government in California, New York State, and Texas.
  • Experience with policy and regulatory affairs related to residential energy technologies.
Responsibilities
  • Engage directly with federal policymakers, regulators, industry stakeholders, and key opinion leaders to shape policy and regulatory outcomes.
  • Track current and emerging policy and legislation at the federal level while developing and executing SPAN’s political strategy.
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with federal agencies; including the U.S. Department of Energy, the White House, Congress, and other key external stakeholders and policymakers.
  • Work closely with other teams at SPAN, including Legal, Safety and Certification teams, to ensure up to date knowledge of company plans and reporting policy/political developments with analysis.
  • Manage external consultant relationships and represent SPAN before trade associations and think-tanks.
  • Engage key stakeholders and rights holders within the energy sector, including public policy organizations and government departments and agencies.
  • Monitor and advance federal and state legislative and regulatory initiatives, and execute strategies to influence regulatory reform.
  • Actively support teams with the execution of solutions that address stakeholder concerns.
  • Work with industry and trade groups to develop and advocate for common industry positions.
