Requirements
  • A high school diploma or equivalent is required.
  • At least one year of administrative, customer service, business support, office management, records management, or related experience is required.
  • Experience using Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, and Outlook, is required.
  • The ability to keyboard at a rate of 40 words per minute is preferred, with a required keyboarding test.
  • Bilingual Spanish-speaking ability is a desired qualification.
  • A driver's license and good motor vehicle record are preferred qualifications.
  • The ability to become NCIC/CCIC certified is required.

Responsibilities
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for the Animal Control Division and respond to public inquiries about services, ordinances, licensing requirements, animal welfare concerns, and related regulations.
  • Receive and process service requests, ordinance violation complaints, nuisance wildlife concerns, and impound reports, entering calls for service into CAD or coordinating entry through Police Communications.
  • Provide administrative support to the Animal Control Supervisor and Division personnel, including scheduling, records management, correspondence, meeting coordination, report preparation, project support, and daily business operations.
  • Maintain division records, databases, filing systems, and records retention processes in accordance with City policies, legal requirements, and departmental procedures.
  • Coordinate case-related administrative activities, including case reports, subpoenas, court documentation, hearing schedules, records requests, and communication with the Lakewood Municipal Court, City Attorney's Office, and other stakeholders.
  • Process accounts payable and receivable transactions, purchase orders, procurement card reconciliations, vendor payments, budget tracking, account reconciliations, and related financial records.
  • Coordinate employee training, travel, conference registrations, reimbursements, office supply inventories, equipment maintenance, mail distribution, and other administrative support functions.
  • Administer the Animal Control Ride-Along Program and maintain participant records, documentation, and communications.
  • Maintain records and documentation for impounded animals, including reclaimed, transferred, adopted, euthanized, deceased, and rehomed animals, in compliance with City policies and state regulations.
  • Perform follow-up communications with residents regarding investigations, service requests, impounded animals, licensing requirements, and case dispositions.
  • Administer and serve as liaison for the Jefferson County Pet Licensing Program within the City of Lakewood Animal Control Division, coordinating licensing activities with Jefferson County, Foothills Animal Shelter, and the public.
  • Collaborate with Animal Control Officers, shelter personnel, veterinary providers, community partners, and court personnel to support animal welfare initiatives, licensing compliance, and operational effectiveness.
  • Prepare statistical reports, operational summaries, meeting materials, and other administrative documentation.
  • Assist with public outreach activities, special projects, accreditation efforts, and division-wide initiatives.
  • Maintain confidentiality of sensitive personnel, legal, financial, investigative, and citizen information.
  • Maintain regular and reliable attendance and interact with others in a positive, professional, and customer-focused manner.
  • Prepare and complete special projects as assigned.
  • Maintain supplies of computer paper and forms in the booking area.
  • Routinely purge existing files in the section.
  • Set up and use a filing system for Animal Control Officers and other section members.
Desired Qualifications
  • Experience working in local government, public safety, law enforcement, animal services, or a related environment is preferred.
