Requirements
  • A PhD in Computer Science or a closely related field.
  • Experience performing independent research in algorithmic genomics and communicating scientific results through scientific publications and presentations.
  • Experience handling and analyzing large genomics datasets.
  • Experience developing software in compiled, statically typed, garbage-collection-free languages such as Rust, C, C++, or Zig.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills.
  • Strong interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to maintain a stationary position for extended periods and perform close-up computer work.
  • Employment eligibility verification and, where applicable, renewed employment authorization must be completed as required by federal immigration law.
Responsibilities
  • Design and develop novel computational methodologies for processing and analyzing high-throughput sequencing data.
  • Write robust and efficient implementations of novel computational methods in a high-performance programming language such as Rust, C, C++, or Zig, and integrate the tools with existing lab software.
  • Prepare, write, and edit scientific manuscripts.
  • Collaborate with and co-mentor PhD students.
  • Assist in writing and preparing funding proposals for NSF, NIH, and other relevant foundations or opportunities.
Desired Qualifications
  • Experience developing advanced computational methodology for genomics data processing.
  • Experience with and knowledge of compact and succinct data structures.
  • Experience with methods for high-dimensional statistical inference, including generative graphical models, maximum likelihood inference, and Bayesian inference.
  • Knowledge of or willingness to learn the Rust programming language.
  • Experience with data analysis and visualization.
  • Familiarity with common genomics tools, formats, and programs.
  • Experience with standard Unix-like command-line tools and idioms.
  • Familiarity with reproducible scientific workflow systems such as Nextflow or Snakemake.
