Continental Resources

View

Continental Resources is an American oil and natural gas company that focuses on exploring, developing, and producing hydrocarbons. It identifies and acquires energy assets, drills and completes wells, and operates properties primarily in the Rocky Mountains, Mid-Continent, and Gulf Coast regions. The company works with landowners who hold mineral rights to share the wealth from resource extraction and uses advanced technology to unlock underground resources, aiming to maximize production from its asset portfolio. Compared with competitors, it stands out as a large independent producer with a geographic-focused portfolio and a history of leveraging technology and partnerships with mineral rights holders to access resources. Its goal is to contribute to American energy supply by safely and efficiently delivering oil and natural gas from its assets.

What believers are saying

  • North Dakota permits in March 2026 show Continental still develops new Beaver Lodge wells.
  • Continental's 2025-2026 Argentina entry opens a second growth engine outside U.S. shale.
  • Private ownership eliminates quarterly market pressure, enabling longer-cycle reinvestment and asset reshuffling.

What critics are saying

  • Continental paused Bakken drilling in January 2026, signaling weak returns and slower growth.
  • North Dakota regulators reported all Continental Bakken rigs offline by March 2026.
  • If Argentina execution disappoints, Continental loses years competing against larger shale operators.

What makes Continental Resources unique

  • Harold Hamm still controls Continental Resources, preserving founder-led capital allocation discipline.
  • Continental built scale in Bakken shale with years of drilling, completion, and land integration.
  • The company retains optionality across Oklahoma, North Dakota, and new Argentina acreage.
