Piedmont Airlines operates as a regional airline under the American Eagle brand, providing passenger air transportation services with nearly 400 daily flights to over 55 cities, mainly on the East Coast of the United States. The airline's main hubs are in Charlotte, North Carolina, and Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Piedmont operates under a contractual agreement with American Airlines, which compensates it for managing a fleet of Embraer 145 regional jets, including staffing with pilots and flight attendants, as well as ground handling and maintenance services. Unlike many airlines, Piedmont does not sell tickets directly to consumers; instead, it serves as a service provider for American Airlines, connecting smaller cities to major hubs. This focus on regional routes allows Piedmont to effectively support the hub-and-spoke system of its parent company, ensuring extensive network coverage for travelers.
