Job Description:
The Department of Communication Studies seeks an Assistant Professor of Performance Studies for a tenure-track position beginning August 2026. We seek scholars to conduct high quality research (both written and performed), teach graduate and undergraduate courses, and advise graduate students.
Required Qualifications
A Ph.D. in performance studies or communication with an emphasis in performance studies, research credentials commensurate with a Comprehensive Doctoral University, and evidence of excellence in teaching are required.
Preferred Qualifications
We seek a performance scholar-practitioner with strong publication potential, experience and commitment to working in a performance laboratory theatre and/or in performance outreach work, and whose research complements existing faculty strengths. We especially seek applicants utilizing arts-based and performance research methods, and applicants with a background in performance studies in the communication studies context. Areas of interest might include performance theory, performance methods, globalization, health, environmental topics, sexuality, gender, race, ethnicity, new media, visual culture, intermediality/adaptation for live performance, oral history, historiography, and/or pedagogy.
