Requirements
  • Hold a minimum of a master’s degree awarded by an institution accredited by the United States Department of Education.
  • Have 5 years of documented non-teaching experience in occupational therapy.
  • Be currently licensed or otherwise regulated in the relevant United States jurisdiction as an occupational therapist or occupational therapy assistant.
  • Demonstrate proficiency using computer applications, online resources, classroom technologies, and an online learning management system such as Blackboard.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of occupational therapy and current subject matter.
  • Have experience using technology as an instructional aid and active, applied teaching and learning methodologies.
  • Be able to communicate effectively with students, colleagues, staff, faculty, and administration across varied populations.
  • Have strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to maintain an established schedule, including evenings and weekends.
  • Be able to maintain confidentiality of student information.
  • Work safely and follow safety rules.
  • Maintain ethics, integrity, sound professional judgment, positive working relationships, and cultural awareness in a multicultural community college environment.
Responsibilities
  • Provide leadership in developing, evaluating, and maintaining curriculum that responds to community needs and meets the requirements of the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board, the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges, and other accrediting bodies.
  • Develop and maintain the departmental budget and instructional supplies.
  • Supervise, hire, coach, and evaluate faculty in alignment with college policies and employment laws.
  • Ensure departmental decision-making is informed by data and involves collaboration with department and collegewide stakeholders.
  • Develop and approve the course schedule, make faculty assignments, and maintain faculty eligibility.
  • Prepare and teach occupational therapy courses to a multicultural student population using instructional strategies appropriate for community college students and discipline standards.
  • Participate in departmental governance, curriculum review and revision, program review, assessment of student learning outcomes, and other departmental activities.
  • Evaluate student progress and provide clear, timely feedback using data to close gaps in program completion.
  • Mentor students and faculty in the Occupational Therapy Assistant program.
  • Provide nondiscriminatory teaching and mentoring services to students.
  • Support professional development and research-related activities.
  • Lead and support division and department goals through collegial decision-making and unit-level planning.
  • Serve on collegewide and departmental committees, councils, work groups, and task forces.
  • Use the college learning management system and complete attendance certification and final grade submissions by required deadlines.
  • Participate in graduation, general assembly, collegewide, campus, department, and other official activities and meetings.
  • Maintain regular office hours to assist students and improve retention and success.
  • Perform other related tasks as assigned.
