Executive Editor, The Trust, International
Overall:
Based in London, the Executive Editor, International for The Trust is a key creative position within our commercial team—responsible for both developing and leading original story reporting across various branded content formats and managing the editorial production process for our partner programs.
You will work with creative directors, editors, designers and developers to see projects through to completion by producing creative ideas, pitching directly to clients, conducting research and interviews, writing and commissioning articles as well as editing content.
The Editorial Team within The Trust creates content in which journalistic skills and editorial expertise are leveraged to create marketing solutions which help our clients achieve their goals. This content exists across multiple formats—from written articles to films, podcasts, whitepapers and more.
You will have and continue to develop a network of freelance contributors across the globe, working with an in-house team spanning across Europe, the Middle East and Asia. You will report into the Creative Director, International who is based in London.
Responsibilities:
- Lead and oversee the creation of expert and high quality editorial content across topic areas that are key for WSJ Barron’s Group audiences including technology, business and finance
- Respond to requests for proposals from clients by participating in brainstorming, contributing creative ideas and writing synopses, devising custom content programs and pitching directly to clients
- Able to manage the full content creation process, with the skills to conduct interviews, identify sources, write compelling punchy copy, sub- and copy edit, fact check and ensure that campaigns are developed on time and on budget.
- Manage a network of both in-house and freelance writers and editors
- Ensure that all branded content produced by The Trust, International is in keeping with the journalistic standards and approach of our newsroom whilst meeting the client’s strategic marketing and business goals
- Collaborate with multiple in-house teams including Editorial, Design, Development and Project Management to create content of the highest quality for our clients
- Leverage insights from internal and external data and research sources to develop editorial strategies for client programs that are based upon facts and a robust understanding of the subject matter
- Work with all teams to ensure our processes are implemented including proper documentation, fact-checking and proofreading standards
- Be an avid consumer of The WSJ Barron’s Group newsroom content and passionately take on board learnings and insights from our newsroom that can be translated to the best practices of The Trust
- Host live events (which may be streamed in-person or virtually) and be involved in the recruitment of speakers, generating follow-up content for print and/online distribution after the event
- Can travel internationally at short notice
Skills & Experience
- 10+ years of journalism experience. Expertise in finance, B2B, government and technology
- 3-4+ years of custom content experience; experience working with clients within the advertising field would be advantageous
- Educated to BA, BSc and/or MA, MSc level (or equivalent relevant qualifications)
- The ability to write accurately about complex topics in a way that engages WSJ Barron’s Group readers
- Strong digital journalism, writing and editing experience as well as experience in developing ideas for multimedia projects that include video, text, photography and infographics to tell a story
- Direct client-facing experience
- Experience working with a team of writers and editors
- Great personal presentation & experience of live in-person hosting of panels and c-suite interviews, in audio or on film.
- Be skilled at analyzing data and writing compelling headlines and social media posts based upon data and best practices
- Have a deep roster of writers, project editors and other content creators
- International experience an advantage
- Second languages an advantage
