Requirements
  • Graduation from a recognized surgical technology program or successful completion of military training in surgical technology is required; military education may be documented with a DD214 demonstrating graduation from a military training program.
  • In Illinois, a high school diploma or GED plus three years of work as a surgical technologist in a healthcare setting may be accepted instead of the education requirement.
  • One year of experience working as a surgical technologist is required.
  • Basic Life Support certification is required.
Responsibilities
  • Provide coverage for on-call procedures during weekday and/or weekend hours, which may include holidays, within the designated department.
  • Assist surgical team members in providing intraoperative care to perioperative patients by preparing and monitoring equipment, passing instruments, and maintaining the sterile field.
  • Assist with patient transfer and positioning.
  • Perform a variety of surgical skills and procedures.
  • Practice autonomously with minimal supervision.
  • Provide first-call coverage in the main operating room for general and orthopedic procedures.
Desired Qualifications
  • An associate degree in surgical technology is preferred.
  • Certification as a Certified Surgical Technologist issued by the National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting Certification is preferred.
