Requirements
  • Certified Nursing Assistant license from the Washington State Department of Health or a comparable certification from another state
  • Speak, write, and read proficiently in English; ability to speak and interpret in Spanish and/or Russian is preferred and may be required depending upon clinic needs
  • Basic mathematical skills including adding, subtracting, multiplying, and division; convert pounds to kilograms
  • Ability to solve practical problems in a variety of situations and interpret a variety of instructions; anticipate needs based on clinical information
  • Familiarity with software including Microsoft Office Windows, SharePoint, Arcadia, One Health Portal, Health Plan Finder, and proprietary software (electronic medical records, EKG monitors, retinal camera, etc.); proficiency with agency Practice Management and Electronic Health Record systems before end of probationary period
  • Understanding of mental health and chemical dependency treatment
  • Good organizational and communication skills; professionalism; ability to work on a team; willingness to receive and give constructive criticism
  • No history or evidence of alcohol or other drug misuse for three years prior to employment; no felony within last seven years; no history of child abuse or any crime involving physical harm; not a perpetrator of substantiated child abuse
  • Demonstrates respect for diversity and ability to form and maintain effective relationships with clients, team members, and community providers
  • Pass Washington State Patrol background check
  • Sign a permanent oath of confidentiality covering all client related information
  • Education, Certificates, Licenses, Registrations, and Medical Screening: CNA license
  • Additional requirements: current First Aid Certificate; pass annual competency test; pre-hire and annual health screening; TB test on hire and annually; annual influenza vaccine required unless exempt with mask; valid Washington State driver's license; Basic Life Support CPR within 90 days of hire and maintained; satisfactory background check
Responsibilities
  • Assists in ensuring agency compliance with Washington Administrative Codes, RCWs, and other pertinent laws, regulations, and contracts
  • Ensure that charts, prescription refill requests, and all information or paperwork the psychiatric prescriber will need is prepared ahead of time and organized in the fashion preferred by the prescriber
  • Ensure medication storage, maintenance, dispensation and waste logs are maintained in accordance with Sea Mar policies and procedures
  • Any area of non-compliance should be reported immediately to the supervisor/manager, if applicable
  • Ensures that all medical, nursing, health & safety and personnel policies and procedures are being followed and implemented
  • Assists psychiatric staff with client flow and provides quality of care in a timely manner
  • Completes routine checks and monitors clients to detect unusual or harmful behavior and reports observations to psychiatric staff
  • Prepare the patient for their office visits with the provider including obtaining subjective data and vital signs, ensuring charting is in accordance with Sea Mar’s policy
  • Works as part of an integrated care team that may include psychiatrists, social workers, behavioral health professionals, chemical dependency professionals and case managers
  • Provides mentally impaired or emotionally disturbed clients with routine physical, emotional, psychological, or rehabilitation care under the direction of psychiatric staff
  • Encourages client participation in social, educational, recreational and employment activities
  • Receives and processes medication refill requests from pharmacies by preparing refill requests for provider review and approval, and ensures prescriptions are faxed to the pharmacy
  • Checks EHR to confirm requests are valid; if valid, send refill request through EHR; if invalid, communicate with the pharmacy
  • Checks medication history in EHR as requested by prescriber
  • Collaborates with prescriber to determine next steps
  • Fields phone calls from clients regarding questions about side effects and/or status of refills
  • Facilitates client enrollment in prescription assistance programs
  • Demonstrates knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the clients served
  • Demonstrates knowledge of growth and development across life span; identify age-specific needs
  • Provides medication monitoring including effects and reports to psychiatrist
  • Screen for suicide risk and inform prescriber and mental health therapist; use case management and build community support for follow-up care
  • Maintain confidentiality; prevent splitting between staff and clients; offer ideas for handling challenging situations
  • Provide advocacy and encourage cooperation when implementing Service Plan
  • Assist client in completing tasks for service accessibility such as forms, documentation, transportation
  • Make referrals to appropriate agencies/community services; assist self-referral
  • Maintains files documenting case management activities as required by State and agency
  • Participates in interdisciplinary team case reviews
  • Promote positive team approach; collaborate to provide comprehensive services
  • Welcome and orient new staff and visitors
  • Maintain professional standards and follow policies; comply with applicable regulations
  • Complete daily record keeping as directed by Program Manager
  • Report unusual incidents to Program Manager; report suspected child/elder abuse to State as mandated
  • Support a full-time provider to see an average of 14 patients per day; productivity requirements attached
  • Assist providers with GYN exams, I and Ds, and other minor procedures
  • Demonstrate clear and concise written and verbal communication; contact provider immediately if priority due to abnormal vital signs
  • Utilize aseptic technique
  • Complete point of care referrals for patients including specialty care and care coordination; inform patients regarding specialty referral; fax information to specialists for referral processing
  • Assist with obtaining laboratory tests and results
  • Maintain positive collaborative relationships with coworkers, specialists, and community organizations
  • Ensure customer service at each patient visit including escorting each patient to and from the treatment rooms
  • Communicate provider delays and delays in patient flow to front desk staff and patient
  • Demonstrate proficiency in nursing parameters of the Electronic Health Record and Practice Management Application programs
  • Demonstrates knowledge, proficiency and compliance with regulatory requirements including Joint Commission, NPSG, Department of Health, HEDIS, PCMH, QI and contractual obligations
  • Demonstrates proficiency in cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and can perform CPR independently
  • Measures and records fluid and food intake and output
  • Recognizes, responds to and reports client’s emotional, social, cultural and mental health needs
  • Addresses individual behavioral needs
  • Depending on the work environment, the Psychiatric Provider Aide will perform all duties under WAC 246-841-400
