Requirements
  • Master’s degree in social work or counseling, or a related field.
  • Active and unrestricted Arizona Board of Behavioral Health Examiners licensure as a Licensed Master of Social Work, Licensed Associate Counselor, or Licensed Associate Marriage and Family Therapist.
  • Knowledge of principles, techniques, and trends in counseling, psychotherapy, clinical case management, and various treatment modalities.
  • Knowledge of mental health and substance use education, prevention, and crisis intervention principles and techniques.
  • Ability to deliver clinical services to individuals, families, and groups.
  • Strong listening, written, and oral communication skills for communicating with patients, providers, and staff.
  • Ability to establish rapport and gain the confidence of providers, case managers, primary care team members, patients, and associates.
  • Ability to handle confidential material in accordance with HIPAA, 42 CFR Part 2, and agency policies.
  • Ability to assess patient-care quality and make improvements as needed.
  • Knowledge of cultural, social, and economic backgrounds of diverse and underserved populations.
  • Knowledge of mental health and substance use issues affecting diverse populations.
  • Knowledge of social and behavioral health resources available for patient care.
  • Knowledge and skills to provide brief intervention counseling for adults and/or children with general mental health and/or substance use challenges.
  • Proficiency with computer-based applications such as Microsoft Office, Adobe, and electronic health records.
  • A valid and unrestricted Arizona driver’s license, or the ability to obtain one within 30 days of hire if applying from out of state, and eligibility under the organization’s liability auto policy.
  • Ability to pass a criminal background check and obtain and maintain a Class I Fingerprint Clearance Card within 90 days of employment.
  • Ability to pass employment and random substance abuse testing.
  • An updated immunization record at employment.
  • A current tuberculosis skin report within 12 months of employment and annual updates.
  • Ability to obtain Basic Life Support certification within 90 days of employment and maintain it.
Responsibilities
  • Assess and provide therapeutic counseling services to individuals, families, and groups with general mental health and substance use concerns within the scope of the Counselor’s education, training, skills, licensure, and privileging.
  • Provide behavioral health prevention and education services to the primarily Spanish-speaking community.
  • Complete accurate and timely documentation, billing, and program audit support.
  • Participate in case staffing meetings and peer review sessions.
  • Collaborate with the care team and internal and external healthcare providers for shared patients to facilitate care and follow-up.
  • Support the organization as needed.
  • Complete assigned Relias and other training related to health promotion and disease prevention on time.
Desired Qualifications
  • Three years of specialized experience in mental health and/or substance abuse with diverse populations.
  • Experience working with underserved populations.
