Requirements
  • A bachelor's degree in Hotel Management, Business Administration, or a related field, plus two years of front office or guest services experience including supervisory experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Ability to communicate clearly in English.
  • Ability to frequently stand behind the desk and in front office areas.
  • Ability to carry or lift items weighing up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to handle various objects.
  • Ability to use a keyboard to operate property management and reservations systems.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with guests, employees, and third parties.
  • Ability to read and write for paperwork, management reports, interpreting results, giving and receiving instructions, and training.
  • Mathematical skills including basic math, budgeting, profit and loss concepts, percentages, and variances.
  • Problem-solving, reasoning, motivating, organizational, and training abilities.
  • Ability to work nights, weekends, and holidays when required.
Responsibilities
  • Assist in managing all aspects of the front office, including guest registration, bell services, concierge services, the InterContinental Club Lounge, and guest reservations.
  • Adhere to brand standards and desk merchandising requirements.
  • Serve as Director of Front Office in the director's absence.
  • Manage the day-to-day activities of Front Office staff and the overnight shift when manager on duty.
  • Schedule employees to ensure proper coverage.
  • Complete the daily safety checklist and ensure it is reviewed and completed each shift.
  • Recommend or initiate salary, disciplinary, and other staffing or People and Culture actions in accordance with company rules and policies.
  • Alert management to potentially serious issues.
  • Ensure staff are trained on systems, security, cash-handling procedures, and service standards and have the tools and equipment needed to perform their functions.
  • Manage the guest experience by ensuring prompt, professional attention and personal recognition.
  • Respond appropriately to guest complaints and implement service-recovery gestures.
  • Schedule and conduct routine inspections of front office and public areas and assist in creating and implementing action plans to correct deficiencies.
  • Assist in monitoring and controlling labor costs and expenses and achieving revenue and profitability goals.
  • Maintain procedures for the security of money, credit and financial transactions, and guests.
  • Check billing instructions and guest credit for compliance with hotel credit policy.
  • Train staff on call procedures to serve as a central communications point during emergency or crisis situations.
  • Promote teamwork and quality service through daily communication and coordination with Accounting, Revenue Management, Sales and Marketing, Catering, Food and Beverage, Housekeeping, and Maintenance.
  • Interact with guests to ensure their total satisfaction.
  • Interact with regulatory agencies regarding safety and emergency matters.
  • Interact with professional organizations, community groups, local media, and other contacts as needed.
  • Assist staff with their job functions during peak periods and perform other assigned duties.
