  • An Associate's degree in Nursing is required.
  • A Bachelor's degree in Nursing is preferred and must be obtained within eight years of hire.
  • A licensed Registered Nurse in good standing in the state of Michigan is required.
  • Basic Life Support certification is required by completion of core orientation.
  • Critical care, Advanced Life Support, and other certifications may be required for some unit-specific RN positions.
  • Electronic Fetal Monitoring Certification through PQF or NCC is required within six months of completing intermediate fetal monitoring for RNs in Labor & Delivery and Mother/Baby/Antepartum at Bronson Methodist Hospital and Bronson Battle Creek.
  • Ability to read, interpret, and analyze data from various computer systems and equipment to determine an appropriate plan of action.
  • Ability to communicate constantly verbally, in writing, and electronically.
  • Ability to sustain alertness and concentration during computer-based and other detailed work.
  • Ability to regularly lift bulky or moderately heavy weights up to 50 pounds and occasionally assist with heavier tasks or equivalent pushing, pulling, or material-handling effort.
Responsibilities
  • Manage care delivery for patients throughout their length of stay to achieve quality outcomes and timely discharge.
  • Use the nursing process of assessment, planning, diagnosing, implementation, and evaluation.
  • Coordinate care provided by other professionals.
  • Delegate selected acts, tasks, or functions within the scope of professional nursing practice to patient care assistants and universal service assistants.
  • Provide appropriate physical care within the scope of professional nursing practice based on patient acuity and care complexity.
  • Document and communicate the patient's response to care, resource consumption, and anticipated needs during each tour of duty.
  • Demonstrate competencies specific to the patient population served when providing direct patient care.
  • Collect comprehensive data pertinent to patients' health or situations, including physical and developmental needs, nursing history, emotional needs, vital signs, and deviations from normal.
  • Analyze assessment data to identify patient problems or issues and confirm problems with patients and families when appropriate.
  • Document expected outcomes and individualized plans of care using the clinical pathway and outcome teaching record.
  • Define expected outcomes with patient and family input while incorporating patient values, ethical considerations, and cultural considerations.
  • Coordinate discharge planning for outcomes not achieved using the available continuum of care.
  • Develop individualized interventions and plans of care using clinical pathways and input from patients and the healthcare team.
  • Implement prescribed medications and treatments in accordance with approved nursing techniques and policies.
  • Use evidence-based interventions specific to the patient's plan of care.
  • Maintain awareness of patient comfort and safety needs.
  • Initiate and coordinate individualized patient education plans.
  • Organize and delegate patient-care interventions and evaluate the effectiveness of care provided by self and others.
  • Evaluate planned interventions and patient responses toward expected outcomes and document the results.
  • Participate in quality-improvement activities and use their results to initiate changes in nursing practice.
  • Participate in ongoing educational activities and maintain professional records documenting competency and continuing education.
  • Provide age-appropriate care in a culturally and ethnically sensitive manner.
  • Participate in self-evaluation and systematic peer review as appropriate.
  • Share knowledge and skills with peers and colleagues and contribute to a supportive work environment.
  • Collaborate with patients, families, and multiple health disciplines to achieve positive patient outcomes.
  • Preserve and protect patient autonomy, dignity, confidentiality, and rights while serving as a patient advocate.
  • Use research findings and evidence-based practice to improve patient health and the practice environment.
  • Assign or delegate tasks based on patient needs, condition, potential harm, complexity, required problem solving, predictability of outcomes, and patient interaction.
  • Help patients and families become informed consumers regarding treatment and care options, costs, risks, and benefits.
  • Provide leadership in the professional practice setting and participate in nursing councils, hospital and unit-based committees, and unit staff meetings.
  • Maintain a professional and healthy work environment when representing Bronson.

  • A Bachelor's degree in Nursing is preferred and must be obtained within eight years of hire.
  • Experience with a variety of clinical skills is relevant for Float Pool positions.
  • Critical care, Advanced Life Support, and other unit-specific certifications may be preferred or required depending on the RN assignment.
