Requirements
  • At least 0–1 years of experience is required.
  • Education in sales, marketing, hospitality, culinary arts, or a related discipline is required; alternatively, a high school diploma or General Educational Development credential and three years of restaurant management, business-to-business sales, or outside sales experience, or equivalent relatable experience, are acceptable.
  • Basic personal computer skills and proficiency with Microsoft Office are required.
  • Ability to read, write, and speak English is required.
Responsibilities
  • Develop new business, penetrate existing accounts, and minimize lost business to achieve profitable sales growth and special objectives within the assigned territory.
  • Seek and qualify prospects following company account stratification goals.
  • Research customer business needs and develop a mix of products and services to meet those needs.
  • Evaluate market trends and recommend products to customers based on business needs and goals.
  • Stay informed about market conditions, product innovations, and competitors’ products, prices, and sales, and share relevant information with customers as a value-added service.
  • Answer customers’ questions about products, prices, availability, and product use.
  • Provide product information and practical training to customer personnel.
  • Drive a personal vehicle to customer accounts, conventions, company meetings, and other business activities.
  • Communicate and collect accounts receivable as necessary, working with the credit department and client, and collect balances due based on approved credit terms.
  • Manage deliveries according to the routing schedule published by the transportation department and troubleshoot order-process issues, including out-of-stock items, special-order items, and low inventory.
  • Participate in company functions, promotions, customer visits, and customer events.
  • Attend and participate in general sales and district meetings.
  • Engage in ongoing training sessions.
  • Assist with training new employees as requested.
  • Review and analyze daily and weekly reports, including special-order requests, customer bid files, and sales and gross-profit-margin data.
  • Perform administrative duties including preparing sales budgets and reports, maintaining sales records, processing credits and pick-up requests, preparing sales quotes and menu suggestions, and filing reports.
  • Work some non-traditional hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays, as needed to meet customer needs.
Desired Qualifications
  • Restaurant management, foodservice outside sales, or chef experience is preferred.
  • Bilingual ability is preferred.
