Requirements
  • Possess the skill, knowledge, and ability essential to the successful performance of assigned duties.
  • Demonstrate a general understanding of medical terminology.
  • Demonstrate customer service skills appropriate to the job.
  • Have a minimum of two years of experience in a hospital or medical office setting.
  • Have extensive and demonstrated knowledge of government and commercial insurance plans.
  • Have experience with registration and/or billing computer software programs.
  • Have excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.
  • Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of managed care plans.
  • Have demonstrated experience with the referral authorization process.
  • Have demonstrated experience with Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, and Outlook.
  • Demonstrate the ability to utilize payer and government websites to access and interpret health plan benefit packages and make coverage determinations.
  • Be able to work weekends, holidays, and evenings.
  • Be able to maintain a work pace appropriate to the workload.
  • Be able to interpret and understand various medical insurance plans and make accurate coverage determinations.
  • Be able to establish and maintain effective working relationships across the health system.
  • Provide proof of work authorization in the United States.
Responsibilities
  • Coordinate care services for assigned patients in collaboration with the case manager, patient or family, healthcare team, and payors.
  • Promote effective utilization of resources using current knowledge and awareness of community resources to achieve optimal care.
  • Assist with discharge planning.
  • Verify insurance and obtain authorizations.
  • Obtain necessary resources.
  • Send referrals.
  • Make follow-up medical appointments.
  • Document activities in all required computer systems.
