GEICO is seeking an experienced software engineer with a passion for building high performance, highly available search platforms based on open-source software. As a software engineer on the search platform team, you will play a pivotal role in design and development helping to shape its architecture, driving innovation, and evolution to meet our evolving business needs.
A Senior Software Engineer works with Geico engineering teams to innovate and build new systems, improve, and enhance existing systems and identify new opportunities to apply your knowledge to solve critical problems. You will help lead the strategy and execution of a technical roadmap to deliver a best in-class Search platform and supporting tooling. The ideal candidate has technical understanding in distributed software systems, open-source software, running large-scale systems and domain knowledge in search and data engine technologies like relational and non-relational data engines.
Position Responsibilities
As a Senior Software Engineer, you will:
Scope, design, and build scalable, resilient distributed systems
Engage in cross-functional collaboration throughout the entire software lifecycle
Participate in design sessions and code reviews with peers to elevate the quality of engineering across the organization
Utilize programming languages like Java, Go, Pythonor other object-oriented languages, SQL, and NoSQL databases, container orchestration services including Docker and Kubernetes, and a variety of tools and services common across service providers
Consistently share best practices and improve processes within and across teams
Build product definition and leverage your technical skills to drive towards the right solution
Contribute to bug fixes in open-source software stacks
Work with customers to optimize, debug and promote open-source stack solutions
Programming experience with at least one modern language such as Java, Go, Python and understand object-oriented design
Experience contributing to the architecture and design (architecture, design patterns, reliability, and scaling) of new and current systems
In-depth knowledge of computer science data structures and algorithms
Experience with operations and controls of other compute service providers like AWS, GCP or Azure
Understanding of micro-service oriented architecture
Understanding of monitoring tools
Knowledge of developer tooling across the software development life cycle (task management, source code, building, deployment, operations, real-time communication)
Understanding of devops concepts and cloud architectural tooling
Analysis and estimation skills
Strong problem-solving ability
Strong oral and written communication skills
Ability to excel in a fast-paced, startup-like environment
4+ years of professional software development experience
3+ years of experience with systems architecture and design
3+ years of experience with coding, debugging and tooling in Java language
2+ years of experience working with compute service providers like AWS, GCP or Azure
Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Information Systems, or equivalent education or work experience
Annual Salary
$80,000.00 - $230,000.00
The above annual salary range is a general guideline. Multiple factors are taken into consideration to arrive at the final hourly rate/ annual salary to be offered to the selected candidate. Factors include, but are not limited to, the scope and responsibilities of the role, the selected candidate’s work experience, education and training, the work location as well as market and business considerations.
