Requirements
  • A Bachelor of Science or Bachelor of Arts degree in Chemical, Physical, Biological, or Clinical Laboratory Science, or Medical Technology is required, subject to modification if minimum Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments requirements are met.
  • No prior experience is required.
  • Certification is preferred.
  • Ability to perform laboratory testing according to written procedures and policies while monitoring quality control and quality assurance practices.
  • Ability to comply with laboratory safety procedures, safety training, competency testing, and training programs.
Responsibilities
  • Perform routine and complex technical tasks and clinical laboratory tests to obtain data used in diagnosing and treating disease.
  • Perform clinical laboratory tests using standard techniques and equipment.
  • Handle specimens and use manual and automatic equipment to test specimens and report analytical test results.
  • Operate manual or computerized instrumentation.
  • Calibrate and maintain instrumentation according to standard operating procedures.
  • Process patient samples using appropriate identification techniques and written procedures to ensure quality testing material.
  • Perform basic troubleshooting of assay problems as directed by senior staff.
  • Communicate problems and issues to appropriate individuals.
  • Maintain inventory of laboratory supplies and equipment.
  • Participate in developing new medical laboratory tests and techniques.
  • Participate in preparing for laboratory inspections.
  • Review inspection documents and procedures and bring non-compliance issues to upper-level staff.
  • Perform proficiency testing as directed to maintain regulatory compliance.
  • Document quality control and quality assurance results.
  • Notify upper-level personnel of instrument malfunctions or unusual or unexpected data or results.
  • Review written procedures and policies for accuracy and submit changes to the manager or designee.
  • Report all safety incidents within 24 hours.
  • Attend required laboratory meetings, safety training, and compliance training.
  • Provide technical guidance and instruction to students, interns, residents, staff, and other employees as needed.
  • Cooperate and communicate with co-workers to support effective workflow.
Desired Qualifications
  • ASCP certification.
