Responsibilities
  • Develop and align the SDx POLT and SDx LT on our global total rewards principles and strategy that delivers competitive rewards aligned with the relevant talent markets (i.e., veterinary, healthcare, medtech, pharma), the Mars principles, Mars Petcare total rewards strategy, relevant Mars total rewards frameworks, and SDx business objectives & talent goals.
  • In partnership with SDx Global POLT and SDx LT, create and oversee a transitional Total Rewards Roadmap (both globally and regionally) that balances the investments needed to achieve our desired TR strategy end-state with the financial and budget priorities.
  • Partner closely with SDx finance to ensure the appropriate planning and budgeting for Total Rewards Roadmap investments, merit budgets, and significant changes impacting the financial performance of the business.
  • Serve on Mars Petcare Total Rewards leadership team, ensuring the SDx business and associate population and their unique needs are represented.
  • Support, contribute to, and implement Petcare and Mars Total Rewards strategies and initiatives that are relevant for SDx associates.
  • Partner closely with the Mars Veterinary Health division on shared Total Rewards operating model projects and initiatives (e.g., benefits plan design, carriers, and administration) to ensure critical SDx needs are met.
  • Analyze market trends and employee feedback to continuously enhance total rewards offerings, and provide strategic insights and recommendations to senior leadership.
  • Oversee the design, benchmarking, and administration of compensation globally across the organization.
  • Lead executive compensation for SDx with partnership from Petcare Total Rewards and Mars Executive Compensation team, including the benchmarking of positions, promotion / hiring rewards recommendations, and offer letter support.
  • Collaborate with other members of the P&O leadership team to ensure competitive positioning and compliance with local regulations in various regions.
  • Lead and manage signature processes, such as merit and annual variable pay administration, in partnership with P&O business partner teams.
  • Provides consultation and rewards expertise in the design and governance of sales compensation programs, in partnership with the regional Sales Operations and Analytics teams.
  • In partnership with Petcare Total Rewards, MVH Total Rewards leadership, and Mars Inc. Global Benefits, oversees the health, wellness, retirement, time off, and other employee benefit programs for SDx in US, Canada, Europe, and APAC
  • Ensures compliance with local, state, and federal regulations, and adherence to all Mars Global Benefits governance processes.
  • Partner with vendors and brokers to optimize offerings and cost-effectiveness.
  • Lead and mentor a high-performing team in the execution of total rewards initiatives, ensuring alignment with organizational culture and the five principles
  • Foster a culture of innovation, inclusion, and continuous improvement.
  • Oversee the definition and tracking key performance indicators (KPIs) for total rewards effectiveness.
  • Contributes to the development of the People Strategy to deliver SDx business strategy.
  • Partner with the P&O LT to foster a high performing leadership team and to deliver Rewards programs to increase the connectivity and engagement of teams and Associates.

Dr. Brad Ryan graduated cum laude with his Bachelor of Arts in public relations from Miami University in 2003, his Master of Science in mammalian biology with distinction from the University of Pretoria in South Africa in 2008, his Doctor of Veterinary Medicine from The Ohio State University College of Veterinary Medicine in 2016, and his Master of Public Health in veterinary public health from The Ohio State University College of Public Health in 2017. Dr. Ryan has treated small animals, exotic pets, and wildlife in veterinary hospitals across the United States and served as Program Manager for the Smithsonian Global Health Program at the National Zoo in Washington, DC. His professional interests include veterinary public health and abating the spillover of zoonotic diseases from animals to people. Speaking/presenting topics: zoonotic diseases, vector-borne diseases, parasitology, and promoting "One Health". Dr. Ryan resides in Ohio with his giant schnauzer, Evan Williams. He is an avid outdoorsman, has thru-hiked the Appalachian Trail from Georgia to Maine and successfully summited Mt. Kilimanjaro. He enjoys wildlife photography and international travel. In May 2023, Dr. Ryan completed his journey to all 63 U.S. National Parks with his 93-year-old Grandma Joy, the oldest person to accomplish this feat. He is an accomplished keynote speaker advocating for LGBTQ+ inclusivity in the great outdoors, mental health, and the power of intergenerational connection. Holly brown, DVM, phd, DACVP. Holly is a veterinarian, board-certified clinical pathologist, and figurative hand-holder. She practiced small animal medicine before, during, and after her specialty training - grateful to have combined her love of clinical practice and the laboratory diagnostics that support it. Holly remains in the trenches at a general, referral, and emergency practice. She loves making an impact at the interface of laboratory data and patient care. Holly recently transitioned into her new role as Chief Veterinary Educator for Antech Diagnostics - exercising her passion for delivering education about maximizing diagnostic testing.
