Requirements
  • At least 3 years of engineering management experience preferable in a machine learning or ML adjacent space
  • An advanced degree in a quantitative field (e.g. computer science, stats, physics, engineering)
  • Experience with fostering a great culture within a team
  • The ability to lead in a fast paced collaborative environment involving different partners and subject matter experts
  • The ability to thrive on a high level of autonomy and responsibility and a bias toward impact
  • Experience recruiting and hiring great engineers
  • Experience with applying machine learning to real-world problems
Responsibilities
  • Modeling reputational risk
  • Building ML models for near-real time detection of financial crimes in an adversarial and dynamically evolving environment
  • Building data pipelines to incorporate new signals and paradigms like digital-wallets for countering crypto based financial crimes and money laundering efforts
  • Building multi-language ML models that work in multiple markets and regions
  • Develop merchant risk profiles that can be used for multiple downstream applications like fraud, credit and supportability risks
  • Building risk engineering systems at scale, to help Stripe grow its footprint rapidly
  • Own Financial Crimes related compliance and user experience metrics and lead the team to build and execute on these metrics
  • Set and execute a vision for how we build defenses against Financial Crimes like Money Laundering, transaction monitoring, sanctioning
  • Set and execute a vision for incorporating new advances in machine learning in ways that best achieve the team's business objectives
  • Support the team in delivering a high level of technical quality and impact
  • Recruit great engineers, in collaboration with Stripe's recruiting team
  • Develop engineers on the team, helping them advance in their careers
  • Contribute to engineering-wide initiatives as a member of Stripe's engineering management team

  • You have managed teams that can collaborate with product teams, respond rapidly to customer needs along with building technology and capabilities that are strategic and foundational in nature
  • You are empathetic to customer needs but visionary enough to not just deliver a faster horse
  • You are comfortable planning in quarters, and can set a vision for several years
  • You are comfortable working with geographically distributed teams and remote workers
