Requirements
  • Juris Doctor degree from an accredited law school and active member in good standing of at least one state bar
  • Minimum of seven to ten years of relevant legal experience, preferably within the property & casualty insurance industry, a regulatory agency or a law firm with an insurance practice
  • Strong working knowledge of state insurance laws and Department of Insurance regulatory processes
  • Demonstrated experience drafting and negotiating commercial agreements
  • Excellent legal research, writing and analytical skills
  • Ability to provide practical, business focused legal advice in a fast-paced environment
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to interact effectively with Executive Leadership and cross functional teams
  • High attention to detail with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications and legal research tools such as Westlaw or LexisNexis
Responsibilities
  • Provide day-to-day legal advice to Executive Leadership and business units on regulatory, operational and strategic matters impacting the Company
  • Interpret and advise on applicable state and federal laws governing property & casualty insurance, including rate and form filings, underwriting, claims, producer licensing, advertising and consumer protection matters
  • Draft, review and negotiate a wide range of contracts and agreements, including vendor agreements, agency agreements, confidentiality agreements and other commercial contracts
  • Partner with Business Leadership to develop, review and enhance internal policies, procedures and controls to ensure ongoing regulatory compliance
  • Oversee and assist with responses to regulatory inquiries, consumer complaints, subpoenas and Department of Insurance examinations
  • Manage outside counsel on litigation and other specialized legal matters, including strategy, budgeting and oversight
  • Support corporate governance activities, including maintenance of corporate records and preparation of Board and committee materials as needed
  • Monitor regulatory developments and communicate changes in laws and regulations to affected business partners, providing actionable guidance for implementation
  • Assist with special projects and strategic initiatives as determined by the VP, Associate General Counsel
  • This position will operate on a hybrid schedule, requiring a minimum of three days per week onsite at our Atlanta office.
