Requirements
  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED) plus at least five years of building maintenance experience which included preventive maintenance and repairs on electrical equipment, access control systems, video surveillance systems, fire alarms and paging systems, buildings and facilities
  • Any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities, may be considered for current Nueces County employees only
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals
  • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence
  • Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization
  • Reads blueprints and operation manuals
  • Must have a valid Texas Driver's License
  • Driving record which meets standards set by the County and the County’s insurance carrier
  • Must pass a criminal background check
  • Knowledge of moderately complex electrical construction and repair and related safety standards
  • Ability to perform complex maintenance and repair work while observing safety procedures
  • Ability to work independently
  • Ability to operate and maintain a variety of power tools, manual tools and equipment
  • Ability to perform necessary mathematical calculations
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other county employees and officials
  • Ability to operate a voltmeter and electrical test equipment
  • Reasoning ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists
  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form
  • Knowledge of high voltage switch gear and electrical distribution systems is implied by duties
  • Ability to troubleshoot and repair electronic jail door control systems
  • Ability to troubleshoot and repair access-control, video camera surveillance, fire alarms, paging, fuel dispensing and cable TV wiring systems
Responsibilities
  • Performs a wide variety of moderately complex construction tasks, preventative maintenance and repair work on equipment, building components, electrical systems and facilities
  • Builds additions to existing electrical systems
  • Installs electrical conduit, wires, panels, fixtures and switches
  • Oversee the work of Electrical Systems Technician I
  • Determines causes of problems and repairs malfunctions in high voltage switch gear and electrical distribution systems
  • Troubleshoots and repairs electronic jail door control systems
  • Act as an inspector for electrical contractors
  • Troubleshoots and repairs various systems including access-control, video camera surveillance, fire alarms, paging, fuel dispensing and cable TV wiring
  • Provide for periodic re-lamping of light fixtures in various county facilities
  • Installs and repairs electrical systems, apparatus, circuits, and electrical components of machinery and equipment
  • Inspects and tests electrical equipment, lighting, and power circuits
  • Isolates defects in wiring, circuit breakers, fuses, switches, sockets, and other elements and replaces faulty circuit breakers, fuses, switches, sockets, and other elements of electrical systems
  • Interprets blueprints sketches and schematic drawing of electrical circuits
  • Mounts motors, transformers, and lighting fixtures into position and completes circuits according to diagram specifications
  • Repairs magnetic starters and remote start-stop stations; operates and maintains high-and low-voltage switches; and installs rigid, thin wall, and flexible conduit
  • Assists in the maintenance and renovation of electrical service
  • Performs such other related duties as may be assigned
  • May provide direction to an Electrical Systems Technician I. Carries out responsibilities in accordance with Nueces County policies and applicable laws
