Pfizer is a global biopharmaceutical company that discovers, develops, manufactures, and sells medicines and vaccines for a range of health needs, including vaccines, oncology, and other specialized therapies. Its products work by using biological mechanisms to prevent or treat diseases—vaccines train the immune system to fight infections, while medicines target cancer and other conditions. Pfizer differentiates itself through its large worldwide footprint, broad portfolio across multiple therapeutic areas, and partnerships (notably with BioNTech) that expanded its reach in vaccines and cutting-edge therapies. The company also engages in public health initiatives, such as efforts to provide vaccines to underserved populations. Pfizer’s broad goal is to improve global health by delivering safe and effective medicines and vaccines through research, development, and wide international distribution.

Medicus Pharma secures Pfizer ADC deal with $2M funding, advances SkinJect for rare cancer treatment

Medicus Pharma has secured a development and licensing agreement with Pfizer for a CD228-targeted antibody-drug conjugate programme focused on solid tumours, including refractory melanoma. Pfizer is providing approximately $2 million in development funding, plus inventory and infrastructure support. CEO Dr Raza Bokhari said the deal allows Medicus to continue from where Pfizer concluded its Phase 1 dose-escalation work, strengthening the company's position in precision oncology. Medicus is also advancing its SkinJect programme for basal cell carcinoma. Final clinical trial results identified the 200-microgram patch as the optimal dose for future studies. The company is preparing for the FDA-approved pivotal SkinJect 005 study whilst recruiting patients. An independent reimbursement analysis suggests SkinJect could achieve reimbursement levels of $25,000 or more per patient.

AbbVie beats Pfizer as top dividend stock with 53-year payout streak and 203% growth

AbbVie offers a smarter long-term dividend investment than Pfizer, despite Pfizer's higher 6.1% yield. AbbVie holds Dividend King status with 53 consecutive years of dividend increases and raised its payout by 5.5% this year to $1.73 per share. Over the past decade, AbbVie increased its dividend by more than 203% compared to Pfizer's 51%. AbbVie's revenue grew 138% during this period, whilst Pfizer's rose just 18%. AbbVie successfully navigated Humira's patent cliff through home-grown immunology drugs Skyrizi and Rinvoq. By 2025, these two drugs generated combined annual sales exceeding $25 billion, replacing Humira's peak revenue and pushing total company revenue to record highs. AbbVie's free-cash-flow dividend payout ratio stands at 65%, lower than Pfizer's 89%.

Pfizer's updated COVID vaccine ships as FDA approves narrower rollout for over-65s and high-risk groups

Pfizer received FDA approval for its updated Comirnaty COVID-19 vaccine on Thursday, with deliveries to pharmacies and clinics beginning immediately. The company's shares were trading at $27.9079 on 28 August. However, the market opportunity has significantly narrowed from pandemic levels. Eligibility is now limited to adults aged 65 and older, plus higher-risk patients aged 5 through 64. Despite Comirnaty having distributed over five billion doses worldwide historically, today's revenue potential is considerably more constrained. Pfizer faces competition from Moderna and the Novavax-Sanofi protein vaccine for this smaller patient pool. The company's current share price sits 5.27% above its estimated value of $26.51, suggesting investors are paying a premium before actual uptake and commercial results become clear.

FDA approves Pfizer-BioNTech XFG-adapted COVID-19 vaccine for high-risk groups

Pfizer and BioNTech have received US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approval for their 2026-2027 COVID-19 vaccine targeting the XFG variant. The vaccine is approved for adults aged 65 and older, and individuals aged 5 to 64 with underlying conditions that increase risk of severe COVID-19 outcomes. The FDA approval is based on clinical, non-clinical and real-world data demonstrating the vaccine generates strong immune responses against currently circulating SARS-CoV-2 variants, including XFG and other contemporary lineages. The XFG variant was selected following FDA guidance for fall 2026 vaccine composition. The vaccine will begin shipping immediately and will be available in US pharmacies, hospitals and clinics within days. To date, more than five billion doses of COMIRNATY have been distributed globally.

Pfizer and J&J navigate patent cliffs with newer drugs offsetting blockbuster losses

Pfizer and Johnson & Johnson are navigating patent cliffs as key drugs lose exclusivity, with their latest results showing differing stages of transition. Pfizer's revenue excluding COVID products grew 5% operationally in Q2 2026, with newer medicines like Padcev and Vyndaqel contributing. The company expects $9.7 billion in cost savings through 2029 to support margins during the transition. Johnson & Johnson's Innovative Medicine sales rose 7.8%, despite Stelara revenue declining 55%. Tremfya sales surged 72.5% to $2 billion, helping offset losses alongside growth from oncology and neuroscience products. Johnson & Johnson raised 2026 guidance, with reported sales expected to reach $101.1 billion and adjusted EPS of $11.68. Its MedTech division provides additional diversification that pure pharmaceutical company Pfizer lacks, suggesting Johnson & Johnson's transition is more advanced.
