Requirements
  • Position can be based in San Francisco or Seattle
  • You will work closely with several cross-functional partners from Perception, Controls and Robotics and Simulation teams and use data from a variety of sensors, simulation data, and high-fidelity maps to build ML models for the tasks above and realize on-road impact
  • You will lead the growth and organization of the team, mentor engineers and support career development, work with other Engineering Managers and Technical Leads on design decisions and code review, and communicate team status and objectives with senior management across Cruise
  • 5+ years experience delivering results within large-scale, Machine Learning environments through direct and team contributions
  • 2+ years of experience leading a team of Machine Learning Engineers and/or Applied Research Scientists
  • 2+ years of experience hiring, leading, and growing teams
  • Proven track record of shipping production quality software through your team that utilizes and builds on top of cutting edge machine learning technologies
  • Experience managing a team and initiatives in a fast-paced, product focused Machine Learning engineering organization
  • Bachelors and/or Masters degree in Computer Science, Machine Learning or Applied ML field such as Computer Vision, NLP, Control Systems, etc
  • Experience writing C++ and Python in a production environment

Responsibilities
  • Building rich representations that include and go beyond agent trajectory estimation, considering detailed semantics of the scene including occlusions, weather and other phenomena
  • Building ML models that learn to generate a high coverage set of paths that the AV could take given the scene context
  • Learning the best path that the AV can take given the above information
  • Build new autonomous capabilities that enable the AV to navigate complex scenes and expand Cruise's operational domain as we scale our business
  • Lead and grow a team of engineers within the Cruise AI organization
  • Ensure your high-functioning and output team delivers quality engineering architecture and design along with fast, reliable, testable production code
  • Develop, align and prioritize the team's quarterly and long-term plans with Cruise goals
  • Work with teams across Cruise to foster a collaborative culture of testing, safety, and documentation
  • Invest heavily in recruiting, identifying opportunities for external engagement to improve the Cruise engineering brand
  • Serve as an embodiment of our values

Desired Qualifications
  • Advanced degree, e.g. PhD in Computer Science, Machine Learning or Applied ML field
  • Worked on high-speed feedback loops and reprioritization based on company requirements
  • Demonstrated experience in strategic, collaborative, execution and goal-focused decision making situations
  • Self-motivation and passion to lead your teams, encourage best practices and constantly improve
  • The salary range for this position is $168,200 - 247,200. Compensation will vary depending on location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. You may also be offered a , restricted stock units, and benefits. These ranges are subject to change
