Requirements
  • Licensed to work as a Registered Nurse in the state of Missouri or in a compact state, or Illinois, Oklahoma, Wisconsin per work location requirements; Basic Life Support for Health Care Providers from the American Heart Association; RN license in the applicable state (IDFPR for Illinois, Missouri Division of Professional Registration, or compact state license); Ability to meet annual mandatory requirements including licensure and certifications listed; Work involves exposure to bloodborne pathogens and varying schedules; The job requires Day Shift and 36 scheduled hours per week.
Responsibilities
  • Performs comprehensive nursing assessment/reassessment with age-appropriate admission and transfer assessments; Documents findings accurately and completely; Assesses post-operative/post-invasive procedure patients; Assesses and documents education and discharge needs of patient and family; Establishes, coordinates and evaluates a plan of care based on assessment data, patient diagnosis, lab data, tests, procedures, physician orders, protocols and standards of care; Identifies short and long term goals and formulates nursing interventions to achieve outcomes; Incorporates disease-specific evidenced-based practice into nursing care plan and documentation; Provides and documents nursing interventions based on assessed patient needs, plan of care, and changes in patient status; Collaborates with health team members for coordination of daily plan of care; Provides, coordinates and communicates patient care including Handoff Communication Reports (Bedside shift report, SBAR, daily huddles, etc.); Administers and documents medications; Monitors IV fluids, blood, blood products and parenteral nutrition; Completes referrals and requests consultation for special needs, equipment, or information; Manages restraints following approved procedures, including alternatives, monitoring and documentation; Provides patient/family education and discharge planning; Pain management including assessment and plan reflecting cultural/spiritual beliefs; Abuse assessment and reporting; Clarifies and transcribes physician orders; Assists physicians with procedures; Reads back telephone/verbal orders and takes orders in emergencies; Recognizes changes in patient condition and takes appropriate nursing actions; Uses chain of command when indicated; Involves family/guardian in care decisions; Completes infection control measures and falls/skin injury prevention; Documents and communicates nursing care and changes in patient condition; Provides specialized care to high-risk patients; Demonstrates accountability for professional practice; Maintains currency in hospital/unit information and participates in governance; Demonstrates ability to adapt to changing work demands; Orients/precepts new employees and maintains collaborative team approach; Functions as a resource to patients, families, staff and medical team; Delegates care appropriately; Communicates plan of care clearly; Keeps documentation clear and legible; Ensures patient safety and service excellence; Participates in performance improvement and evidenced-based practice; Involves in nursing research and quality indicators; Provides age-appropriate care; Maintains cost-effective services; Follows safety and infection control policies; Performs other related duties as assigned.
