About Us
A massive shift is taking place within SaaS. Just as perpetual licensing gave way to subscription, subscription is giving way to usage-based pricing. But tying revenue to usage fundamentally changes how every part of the business operates, from billing teams to the C-suite. Turnstile is the modern stack to help companies adopt and scale with usage-based pricing.
We’re a small, fully remote, and proven team with strong backing from First Round Capital, prominent usage-based founders and operators, and other top investors. The last company we started, Second Measure, scaled to 70+ people and tens of millions in revenue, received multiple "best places to work" awards, and was ultimately acquired by Bloomberg in a landmark deal.
The Opportunity
Joining as an early engineer (and our first data engineering lead), you’ll own the processing frameworks and pipelines for handling critical business data for usage-based SaaS operators and their customers. You’ll architect our data processing systems; define and evolve our technology stack as our scale grows, and lead our data engineering sub-team. You’ll work closely with design and product management to deliver highly-available and correct outputs to business users for one of their most operationally critical systems. More than that, you’ll join a tight-knit team of repeat founders and seasoned operators in shaping the future of SaaS.
In this role, we’ll ask you to:
Partner with technical founders to create a category-defining product
Lead our overall data processing strategy
Define best-in-class engineering standards and practices
Help assemble and mentor a diverse and distributed team of backend engineers
We’d love to hear from you if:
You have a proven track record of developing and maintaining highly available and highly scalable production systems as an on-call operator
You have prior experience as a team or technical lead
You’ve worked with distributed batch processing systems such as Spark, MapReduce, or Presto
You have experience with OLAP systems such as Redshift, BigQuery, or Druid
You are familiar with data lakes and data lakehouses such as Delta Lake
You’ve worked with stream processing engines such as Spark Streaming, Flink, or Kafka Streams
You’d excel working in a dynamic and high-trust environment alongside an experienced team
