Requirements
  • Willingness to understand and support The Salvation Army’s mission and purpose in Canada as they relate to the position.
  • Work in compliance with the Occupational Health and Safety Act and Regulations and The Salvation Army’s health and safety policies and procedures.
  • Some high school coursework; completion of high school is an asset.
  • One year of related experience or experience working in customer service.
  • A valid driver’s license and reliable vehicle.
  • Ability to lift 9 to 12 kilograms (20 to 25 pounds).
  • Strong customer service skills and the ability to liaise and work with people of all ages and abilities.
  • Ability to remain flexible and work well under pressure with daily timelines and changing priorities.
  • Ability to maintain strict confidentiality when handling donor, volunteer, and organizational information.
Responsibilities
  • Attend a day of training and orientation on The Salvation Army and the Christmas Kettle Campaign.
  • Support delivery of kettles to zone locations before volunteers arrive at the start of the campaign.
  • Ensure all kettle donations are delivered to a secure location at the end of each shift.
  • Communicate daily issues and supply deficiencies to the City or Assistant Coordinator.
  • Orient volunteers and remind them of proper kettle handling and duties as required.
  • Supervise, support, and assign kettle volunteers throughout the campaign as required.
  • Participate in recruiting new volunteers.
  • Visit locations during shift changes and intermittently.
  • Communicate daily with the ATL partner to ensure an effective transition.
  • Submit timesheets and mileage reports accurately and on a weekly basis.
  • Remain at the kettle for the full shift until relieved, ensuring the security of donations received.
  • Respond to questions from potential donors about Salvation Army ministries and programs.
  • Collect donations and petty cash and ensure donations remain secure.
  • Perform other work-related duties as assigned.
