Requirements
  • A minimum of 5 years of experience as a locomotive welder.
  • Knowledge of MIG, dual-shield, flux-core, pipe, fabrication, and stick welding processes.
  • Knowledge of locomotive components and mechanical aptitude.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and perform physical activities including climbing, reaching, and kneeling.
  • Capability to work in confined spaces and at heights exceeding 6 feet with appropriate safety measures.
  • Ability to work indoors or outdoors in temperature extremes and weather elements.
  • Ability to work cooperatively as part of a team to meet production goals.
  • Strict adherence to safety policies and procedures in a safety-sensitive position.
  • Participation in the Federal Railroad Administration safety and compliance requirements, including Personal Blue Signal Protection of Workers.
Responsibilities
  • Fabricate, assemble, repair, inspect, perform preventive maintenance on, and troubleshoot locomotive components in compliance with Federal Railroad Administration and company specifications.
  • Perform welding on locomotive components, including heavy plate and sheet metal, in vertical, flat, and overhead positions.
  • Work from technical drawings and weld procedure specifications to execute tasks accurately.
  • Utilize welding equipment, cutting torches, grinders, and other tools safely and effectively.
  • Conduct inspections and troubleshoot issues related to locomotive components.
  • Maintain accurate written and computer records of work performed.
  • Participate in continuous improvement initiatives and problem-solving activities.
  • Maintain a clean and organized work environment and care for tools and equipment.
  • Assist with other maintenance and repair tasks as directed by supervision.
  • Follow all safety protocols and use personal protective equipment.
  • Perform pipe welding and train junior welders.
Desired Qualifications
  • Preferred certifications in Shielded Metal Arc Welding and socket pipe welding.
  • Certified welder qualification with a strong understanding of locomotive components and mechanical systems.
