Requirements
  • A doctoral degree in Geospatial Computer Science, Geomatics Engineering, Geospatial Sciences, or a related field; ABD candidates may substitute if the Ph.D. is conferred within six months of hire.
  • A record of publications and presentations in the field.
  • Proficiency with geodetic software, reality capture software, Global Navigation Satellite System processing tools, and geospatial data management systems.
  • Demonstrated success organizing, analyzing, and interpreting complex scientific or technical data, including translating difficult technical information into language suitable for target audiences.
  • Strong strategic planning and organizational leadership skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and maintain relationships with government agencies, professional organizations, and industry partners.
  • Excellent project management and organization skills.
  • Intermediate proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.

Responsibilities
  • Design, perform, and analyze remote sensing and geospatial data collection procedures and processing methodologies for various applications.
  • Use data analysis frameworks involving artificial intelligence, geospatial computing, 3D reality capture, image processing, and signal processing to develop and implement processing tools and workflows.
  • Conduct research and technical report writing in support of project deliverables.
  • Conduct independent research and collaborative studies aligned with the MANTIS and CBI missions.
  • Lead research as a primary investigator or co-investigator.
  • Maintain detailed records of procedures and data.
  • Prepare data for publication and presentation.
  • Contribute to strategic planning and vision with lab directorship and institute leadership.
  • Provide project management and deliverable oversight.
  • Supervise employees and student researchers.
  • Mentor employees and student researchers on analyzing data and preparing results.
  • Identify funding opportunities and initiate discussions regarding proposal development and submission.
  • Work within the pre-award process for proposal development and submission with research administration staff and sponsored research services.
  • Secure and manage sponsored projects.
  • Plan, direct, and coordinate sponsored-project budgets with administrative staff.
  • Commit sponsored-project funds in accordance with approved budgets and applicable guidelines.
  • Oversee and approve schedules, priorities, and standards for achieving deliverables and meeting stakeholder expectations.
  • Plan, organize, and direct decisions on software and computing equipment for projects.
  • Prepare project deliverables required by sponsored agreements and resolve issues in a timely manner.
  • Oversee onboarding of new sponsors and direct the deployment of research.
  • Communicate with colleagues and sponsors to understand project requirements, timelines, and expectations.
  • Maintain clear communication channels and respond promptly to inquiries and requests.
  • Conduct, represent, and attend meetings.
Desired Qualifications
  • Demonstrated experience working in a research environment at an institution of higher education.
  • Experience supervising employees and/or mentoring students.
  • Experience in technical report writing, editing, and deliverable development, particularly for Departments of Transportation.
  • Experience with research needs of state Departments of Transportation related to geospatial data, digital delivery, and digital twins.
  • Experience in research development and supporting competitive proposals to federal, state, or industry sponsors.
  • Experience with LiDAR, photogrammetry, geospatial artificial intelligence, and strong knowledge of geomatics.
