Requirements
  • A minimum of seven years of experience in a high-hazard process plant environment is required.
  • Extensive knowledge of process safety management under 29 CFR Part 1910.119 OSHA Process Safety Management and 40 CFR Part 68 EPA Risk Management Plan.
  • Working experience using Root Cause Analysis, Failure Mode and Effects Analysis, or similar robust problem-solving tools.
  • Knowledge of related standards and codes, including NFPA.
  • Experience developing and implementing process safety-related policies.
  • Strong knowledge of process safety methodologies and tools such as hazard studies and Layer of Protection Analysis, with experience leading these studies.
  • Ability to construct and carry out diverse plans and priorities within specific timetables.
  • Ability to facilitate change and solve problems.
  • Ability to prioritize and plan work activities and use time efficiently.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, including Excel, Word, and Outlook.
  • Ability to lift 20 pounds occasionally.
  • Physical ability to work around and on industrial equipment, including frequently climbing scaffolds, stairs, and ladders at excessive heights.
  • Ability to wear designated personal protective equipment, including a respirator, hard hat, safety glasses, gloves, heeled boots, and hearing protection.
  • Ability to work at heights and sit for prolonged periods.
  • Ability to communicate effectively through various means.
  • Ability to work in office and production-area environments, in the field, and in extreme weather as needed.
  • Ability to work a regular 9/80 schedule and longer hours as necessary to meet deadlines.
Responsibilities
  • Develop and manage process safety management by leading the site's Process Hazard Analysis and hazard study programs to identify, evaluate, and control process hazards through hazard identification, risk assessments, mitigation planning, project implementation, procedure development, compliance auditing, and compliance reporting.
  • Provide expertise on process safety risk identification, assessment, and management processes.
  • Implement Process Safety Management standards and incorporate industry best practices.
  • Develop and manage the risk register for potential threats and create prevention and mitigation plans.
  • Educate and develop others in process safety and deliver training to increase site Process Safety Management knowledge.
  • Lead, manage, and facilitate process hazard identification and risk assessments to develop facility risk-management strategies.
  • Lead the development and execution of process safety risk mitigation projects.
  • Manage Process Safety Management and incident-investigation software tools.
  • Lead investigations of Process Safety Management incidents, including root-cause and corrective-action determination for incidents and near misses.
  • Manage corrective actions arising from incident investigations, Process Hazard Analyses, and audits.
  • Act as site champion and facilitator for Root Cause Analysis.
  • Manage Management of Change items related to Process Safety Management and ensure Pre-Startup Safety Reviews are completed.
  • Ensure process safety documentation for identified hazards is developed and maintained.
  • Identify process safety training needs and provide training through internal resources or external consultants.
  • Act as the site point of contact for process safety matters and provide day-to-day advice and direction.
  • Ensure an annual Process Hazard Analysis program is compiled and followed, including closing Process Safety Management actions and completing annual internal site audits.
  • Provide technical expertise in process hazard studies and capital projects.
  • Maintain a professional image with clients and vendors.
  • Follow company policies and procedures.
  • Assist other departments and administrative personnel as needed.
  • Perform other assigned tasks.

  • A bachelor's degree in a related discipline.
  • Experience working in a previous Process Safety Management role.
