Requirements
  • At least one of the following is required: a Missouri Certified Nursing Assistant license; prior experience as a Nurse Assistant, Emergency Medical Technician, Surgical Technician, Patient Care Technician, or Behavioral Health Technician; or enrollment in a nursing program with completion of the Fundamentals of Nursing program.
  • Completion of a state-approved unlicensed assist personnel program, documented qualification under exempted unlicensed assist personnel guidelines, or enrollment in SSM Health's unlicensed assist personnel program upon hire is required.
  • Basic Life Support HealthCare Provider certification from the American Heart Association is required.
  • The role requires constant standing and walking; frequent communication, hearing, lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling, reaching, gripping, keyboard use, data entry, and visual identification; and occasional patient lifting or moving and other listed physical activities.
Responsibilities
  • Receive patient-care assignments from the registered nurse in charge and initiate delegated nursing tasks within demonstrated competence.
  • Collect and document admission-assessment, reassessment, appointment, and surgery-scheduling data, and provide appropriate data to the registered nurse or licensed practical nurse for analysis and validation.
  • Inform the licensed nurse about changes in patient condition or needs, patient complaints, and patient or significant-other education needs.
  • Stock and maintain supplies and equipment according to patient-care needs and cost-containment practices.
  • Perform delegated clerical duties, including answering telephones, relaying messages, transcribing physician orders, and preparing and organizing medical records.
  • In an inpatient environment, answer patient calls for help, take vital signs, monitor behavior and physical condition, assist with baths, ambulation, feeding, skin care, hygiene, bed-making, dressing changes, enemas, ostomy care, toileting, repositioning, cough and deep-breathing exercises, catheter care, specimen collection, and measurement and recording of fluid intake and output.
  • Prepare inpatients for discharge, accompany them upon dismissal when indicated, and orient new patients and significant others to the nursing unit.
  • In an outpatient environment, manage referrals for medical and surgical specialist appointments and assist with care for patients aged three years or older.
  • Work in a constant state of alertness and in a safe manner.
  • Perform point-of-care testing according to policies and procedures.
  • Perform other assigned duties.
