Requirements
  • At least 5 years of experience working with electrical design, power distribution systems, switchgear, generators, and aerospace environments.
  • Strong expertise in reading power and control schematics and technical operations and maintenance manuals, including experience with variable-frequency drives, MODBUS communication, medium-voltage distribution, and control panel design.
  • Working knowledge of NFPA 70, the National Electrical Code; NFPA 70E, Electrical Safety; and NFPA 780, Lightning Protection.
  • Experience with DESR 6055.09, AFMAN 32-1065, and AFSPCMAN 91-710.
  • Proficiency with power systems analysis tools such as ETAP, EasyPower, or SKM.
  • A strong understanding of engineering construction drawings and construction means and methods.
  • Ability to lead teams, work autonomously, receive and incorporate constructive feedback, and work effectively on a high-performing team.
  • Ability to lead external designers, vendors, and contractors while driving projects to completion quickly and efficiently.
  • Ability to prioritize and execute.
  • Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering or a similar field.
Responsibilities
  • Develop, own, and drive the overall high-power architecture and build strategy for critical ground systems, including lightning protection systems, the launch pad, propellant farms, horizontal integration facilities, payload processing facilities, and launch control centers.
  • Develop detailed electrical designs and specifications for power distribution, switchgear, motor control centers, interior and exterior lighting, uninterruptible power supply units, generators, automatic transfer switches, power monitoring hardware and software, data and telephone wiring, grounding systems, fire alarms, public address systems, and lightning protection.
  • Provide engineering support for troubleshooting electrical equipment and controllers, conduct load-flow analysis, and evaluate electrical equipment.
  • Ensure that electrical systems interface properly with mechanical systems and comply with power budgets; coordinate with local utility personnel for installations and maintenance; and ensure compliance with relevant codes and regulations.
  • Oversee project activities including development of drawings, requests for proposals, bid evaluations, subcontractor management, and construction; manage project timelines and budgets; ensure quality control throughout construction; and act as the primary point of contact for contractors and stakeholders.
  • Manage commissioning, operation, and maintenance of power systems.
  • Continuously maintain and improve the design and physical configuration of the system throughout ongoing operations and maintenance.
Desired Qualifications
  • At least 10 years of experience in electrical design, power distribution systems, switchgear, generators, and aerospace environments.
  • Extensive experience in aerospace, particularly orbital launch vehicle ground support equipment, and with the Department of Defense, United States Air Force/United States Space Force, NASA, and other government agencies.
  • Professional Engineering license in electrical engineering.

Former OpenAI executive Kevin Weil joins Stoke Space board as reusable rocket firm eyes commercial operations

Stoke Space has appointed Kevin Weil to its board of directors. Weil brings over 20 years of technology leadership experience from roles at OpenAI, Planet Labs, Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter. Most recently, he served as vice president of science at OpenAI, focusing on applying AI to scientific discovery. Stoke Space is developing Nova, a fully reusable medium-lift launch vehicle. The company aims to provide low-cost, on-demand space transport with aircraft-like frequency. Weil was part of management teams that took Twitter and Planet public and helped scale Instagram and ChatGPT into global platforms. Stoke's technology development has been funded by the US Space Force, DIU, NASA, and the National Science Foundation. Weil holds degrees in physics and mathematics from Harvard and Stanford.

Stoke Space raises $860M in extended Series D to accelerate Nova rocket development

Stoke Space Technologies has extended its Series D funding round to $860 million, up from the $510 million initially announced in October 2025. The rocket company is developing fully and rapidly reusable medium-lift launch vehicles. The original funding was earmarked for completing Launch Complex 14 at Cape Canaveral Space Force Station and expanding production capacity for its Nova launch vehicle. The additional capital will accelerate future elements of the company's product roadmap. Founded by CEO Andy Lapsa, Stoke has now raised $1.34 billion in total funding. The company is backed by the US Space Force, Defence Innovation Unit, NASA and the National Science Foundation, amongst other government and private partners. Terms of the funding extension were not disclosed.
