Clerk is building the next generation of developer tools. By focusing on the new generation the modern web stack, our platform dramatically reduces the time and effort required to implement robust authentication and user management.

The opportunity for Clerk is born out of the massive investment in React, serverless, and new web-frameworks by providers like AWS, GCP, Cloudflare, Netlify, and Vercel. While they have pushed the infrastructure forward for this new architecture, we’ve noticed the application layer is lagging behind. The first task for every new application is to add user management, but there’s still no go-to solution for Jamstack user management.

We aim to make Clerk the de-facto user management standard for the next generation of applications. Clerk combines comprehensive, well-documented APIs with prebuilt, customizable UI components to enabledevelopers to add user management capabilities with only a few lines of code. With Clerk, it takes less than 10 minutes to integrate features such as sign-up and sign-in authorization, user profile management, multi-account switching, two-step verification, and more.

We’re searching for a second designer to join our design team. An online portfolio showcasing your ability to utilize user-centered design to craft easy-to-use and aesthetically-refined solutions is a must. If you are well-versed in HTML, CSS, and JS; are familiar with front-end frameworks such as React and NextJS; and ideally have some experience programming (maybe you took a few CS courses in college, or have a side project), you would be a great fit. You won’t be programming, but the product is technical in nature and having a thorough understanding of how it works is essential. Previous experience at a large company or agency is a plus if you can implement their processes here. Alternatively, experience at small startups will make you feel right at home.

Other companies may move fast and break things, but our team encourages thoughtfulness and quality over speed. Innovating in this space requires patience and collaboration with the community, and we will spend the time to make sure we get the end-product right.

Clerk operates teams based in the United States and Greece. The design team is based in San Francisco, but this role can be local or remote. (Work will be remote during COVID-19 regardless of location.) Please include a link to your online portfolio when applying.

Your day-to-day responsibilities include:

• Collaborating with design, engineering, and other cross-functional stakeholders to understand product requirements and develop new features and improvements
• Creating user flows, wireframes, designs, and prototypes (we’re a Figma shop)
• Collaborating with the design team and participating in design crits to build innovative products that developers and users love
• Gathering and integrating user feedback from the developer community
• Collaborating with engineers to ensure pixel-perfect designs are released on production
• Managing tasks and sharing knowledge on Notion.so

You should have:

• A bachelor’s degree in design, product design, human-computer interaction, computer science, or a related discipline; or equivalent relevant industry experience
• 3+ years of experience working as a designer
• Experience leading product development at all stages in the design process
• Experience working with designers, engineers, and other cross-functional stakeholders
• Experience using Figma text/color/effect styles, components, and auto-layout
• Experience designing for a wide range of platforms and localizations
• Excellent communication and problem-solving skills
• Ability to work during standard working hours, Pacific time
• A portfolio showcasing your design abilities

We’d love to see:

• 5+ years of experience working as a designer
• Experience creating and maintaining design systems/component libraries
• Experience designing devtools and/or enterprise applications
• Illustration or iconography ability
• Thorough knowledge of frontend technologies, including HTML, CSS, and JS
• Familiarity with abilities and limitations of front-end development frameworks such as React and NextJS
