Requirements
  • Hold an active license to practice nursing in the state of Michigan and maintain continuing education units per state licensure requirements
  • BSN or BS/BS required
  • Minimum of 4 years nursing clinical experience required, in behavioral health preferred
  • Minimum of two years teaching experience required
  • Experience as a nursing preceptor or in nursing/patient education required
  • Certification by a nationally recognized nursing organization in staff development and/or an appropriate specialty area
  • Membership in an appropriate professional nursing organization preferred
  • Intermediate experience with computer technology: Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Teams; E-mail platforms and Internet, required
  • Must have or get within 6 months of hire national certification to be a trainer for non-violent crisis intervention, American Heart Association BLS CPR certified trainer
  • Analytical/problem solving skills (Required)
  • Mastery experience with computer technology (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, E-mail, Internet, Video based platforms such as Microsoft Teams) (Required)
  • Possesses excellent verbal and written communication skills (Required)
  • Knowledge of legislative/oversight bodies (e.g., TJC, CMS, CLIA, CMH, CARF) preferred
  • Must have or get within 6 months of hire a national certification to be a trainer for Pine Rest Non-violent Crisis management system
Responsibilities
  • Designs and revises educational activities to facilitate behavior change
  • Integrates cultural competence into learning activities
  • Facilitates the application of appropriate theories of nursing and other sciences including the dissemination of current information and theories necessary to improve quality patient care
  • Works in conjunction with unit preceptors and unit manager to develop a competency-based orientation individualized to new hires assigned to unit(s)/department(s)
  • Maintains a flexible schedule to meet learning needs of staff on all shifts, which may include weekends
  • Monitors safety practices and recognizes trends in conjunction with manager to promote patient safety
  • Serves as coach or mentor for less experienced staff/colleagues
  • Serves on key committees/workgroups to identify educational needs of nursing staff and other clinical team support roles
  • Proficiently utilizes a variety of educational approaches including but not limited to one-on-one instruction, group classes, train-the-trainer, and audio-visual presentations
  • Educate staff to be unit trainers for new equipment, policies and procedures and provide framework for training/education
  • Provides assistance to learners in identification of learning needs including cognitive, psychomotor, and affective domains
  • Responds to the following Pine Rest codes: Code Green, Blue & Pink when called and/or in the immediate area
  • Perform cyclical reviews of curricula and learning content
  • Analyze and monitors data for trends
  • Continuous use of critical thinking skills and creativity to foster process improvements
  • Active membership to assigned committees
  • Participation in quality improvement projects
  • Ensures the accuracy and completeness of the data collected and utilized for educational purposes
  • May work closely with vendor(s) for successful abstraction and reporting measures
  • May request data that is reported to regulatory bodies as required/needed
  • Maintain organizational knowledge of current rules, regulations, policies, and procedures
  • Completes research for content development via data extraction from a myriad of locations including but not limited to chart audits, incident report forms, recipient rights complaints/investigations, regulatory agency requirements and changes
  • Criticizes and completes updates to course design ensuring that all designs and revisions of education activities facilitate behavior change
  • May be responsible for ensuring regulatory compliance within the education that is delivered throughout Hospital and Residential Services; including but not limited to, accreditation and licensing
  • Maintains database(s) with required registration and documentation as defined by departmental standard operating procedures
  • Performs other duties or functions as assigned
