Requirements
  • Bachelor Degree from an ABET-accredited school in Mechanical Engineering or technically related discipline
  • Experience working with AutoCAD is required
  • Demonstrated knowledge or experience with designs containing HVAC, chillers, boilers, pump hydraulics, exhaust, process chemicals, wastewater discharge, or other similar mechanical building systems
  • Demonstrated knowledge of ASHRAE standards, NFPA codes for mechanical systems, and familiarity with applicable state/local building codes
  • Ability to clearly communicate technical information and design concepts to project managers, contractors, and cross-disciplinary teams
Responsibilities
  • Produce detailed engineering designs, technical project plans, specifications, drawings, and models that meet specifications and client needs
  • Create, influence, and finalize designs involving industrial and domestic piping, plumbing, chillers, boilers, HVAC ducting, exhaust, motor control, process chemicals, wastewater discharge, Fire Protection systems and possibly other mechanical building systems
  • Perform detailed mechanical system calculations including load analysis, pump head curves, pressure drop, and energy consumption to optimize system performance and support design decisions
  • Apply standard engineering techniques and procedures and exercise judgment in making minor adaptations and modifications to design concepts; ensure quality control by complying with company and team design and CAD standards
  • Work with the design team, other Engineers, Project Managers, and other stakeholders on specific assigned objectives, complex features, and aid in deriving possible solutions to unusual problems
  • Facilitate internal and external design review meetings, ensuring all deliverables meet quality assurance standards and project milestones, while mitigating risks related to design errors or omissions
  • Coordinate needs, designs, and develop an understanding with other design disciplines for design package needs
  • Perform field verifications / site walks to identify, verify, resolve, and incorporate solutions into design packages when needed; may troubleshoot design problems in the field during construction
  • Manage technical inquiries, submittal reviews, and RFI responses from contractors and vendors, maintaining rigorous version control and supporting contractor coordination during procurement and installation phases
Desired Qualifications
  • Experience with Revit, Navisworks, PIPE-FLO or similar hydraulic modeling software is a plus

SHYFT Collective design team acquired by SSOE Group. SSOE Group, a global architecture and engineering firm headquartered in Toldeo, Ohio, announced the acquisition of Des Moines-based SHYFT Collective's architecture and design team to enhance its service capacity in the Des Moines and Columbus, Ohio, markets. "Our clients will continue working with the same trusted team, now supported by the scale and experience of SSOE," Steve Reynolds, founding partner and principal of SHYFT, said in a prepared statement. "SSOE brings the capacity and portfolio of a firm that successfully delivers projects of every size and complexity. With their resources behind us, we now can execute larger scopes and provide a full range of services under one roof while also creating more informed designs using computational and AI powered tools." The acquisition closed on Oct. 10, with Shyft Construction continuing to operate independently in the Iowa and Ohio markets. Founded in 1948, SSOE is a global design firm with more than 1,400 employees and 20 offices worldwide.
